Took a big stride forward when winning on his handicap debut having shown very little in his qualifying runs. Steps back in trip here by 2f and more needed under a penalty having looked as though 3m would suit better.

Took a bumper on his debut back in November 2016 but has been seen rarely since making just the two hurdles appearances so far (both over 2m). He steps up 4f in trip here and having shown promise before may do better here; type for handicaps.

Had some wind surgery before the change of stables from Jim Goldie to his present yard having shown just modest form on the Flat over staying trips. Both his hurdles starts so far have been poor and he looks a low-grade handicap project.
Sales price rose by £80,000 from four to five-year-old and he makes his Rules debut here having won an Irish point-to-point on debut back in April. Yard do well with this sort and worth a market check ahead of his first run.

Tongue-tie went on when he made a belated hurdles debut at Newcastle over this trip on heavy ground (shaped with promise). Given a break after that and returned on much quicker ground he failed to make an impression when last seen.

Hurdles debut for this half-brother to five winners who very much built on his debut promise when winning a bumper at Market Rasen in April. Beat one who had achieved more on his debut and looks to have more to offer over obstacles.
Trainer won this last year but has had a fairly quiet time of late although he saddles one here who looks sure to do well in novice hurdles given the style of her bumper win. Quickened well and drew away easily to win at Bangor; leading chance.

Easy winner of an Irish point-to-point on his debut his form in maiden hurdles has been useful; two best outings have come on better ground. Should enjoy the trip/course here and his Ascot form last time sets the standard.

Cost £140,000 as a four-year-old (half-brother to the useful hurdler/smart chaser Western Warhorse). Won an Irish point-to-point on his debut in February and now hooded for his Rules debut; yard not quite firing just yet.

Forecasts

Storm Control (2/1), One For Rosie (5/2), Glen Forsa (5/2), Hill Sixteen (10/1), Northern Soul (16/1), The Hollow Chap (22/1), Shepherd's Bight (33/1), Monsieur Bagot (33/1), Luvly Boy Blue (100/1), Hero's Story (200/1)

Verdict

Quite a few that are of interest in this opener with Bangor bumper winner One For Rosie and Storm Control setting the standard with that one having recorded some decent hurdles run although he’s not converted an opportunity as yet. Both are from yards that haven’t really got rolling yet though and it may to take a chance with impressive Market Rasen bumper winner NORTHERN SOUL who makes his hurdling debut. Hill Sixteen and Glen Forsa are two others to note if the market speaks for them with the penalised Shepherd’s Bight looking to have a tough task under a penalty.
  1. Northern Soul
  2. One For Rosie
  3. Storm Control
