Been kept busy on the Flat for much of the summer/autumn, running respectably, but a long time since he's been hurdling and this looks a stiff enough mark given recent exploits. Needs the switch of code to improve him again.
Useful dual-purpose sort who came good on the Flat at Musselburgh last month before getting outclassed somewhat at Market Rasen last time. Will find this easier, has trip and ground to suit and could easily bounce back.
Have to go back to 2014 to trace the last time he found the winners enclosure and, despite some decent efforts for Charlie Longsden last year, did look like the handicapper was in charge. Best watched on first start for new yard today.
Looked a useful sort a couple of years ago but had his problems and only seen once last year, that when pulling up at Warwick. Still remains with potential to do better though, and yard ticking along nicely, so a better effort no surprise.
Placed last three starts but equally a rather disappointing favourite last two runs, let down by hurdling technique at key times. Goes back into handicaps here and seems to have a fair chance from this mark, but does need a clear round.
Has a couple of wins in soft/heavy ground to his name, one of those coming on final start of last year (over fences). Trip fine but no great record after a break and ground might be lively enough, so best watched here.
Has a couple of wins at the track to his name, so has that going for him, but proved hard to win with last year and, although fourth on comeback earlier in the month, that form has been let down since. Bit to prove now.
Only had the four starts and highly tried on a couple of them, but nothing wrong with his second to a useful sort at Sandown on final start of last year. Open to plenty of improvement and step up in trip should suit. Every chance if fit after break.
Winner for another yard at Kelso in May but since then has thrown in three stinkers for new trainer and looks to be in no form at all. Hard to make much of a case for.
Took on some decent sorts in novice hurdles a couple of year ago (close enough fifth to the classy Kalondra at Ascot reads very well), not seen out since Jan 2017 but yard adept at getting these types back and he looks one to be interested in here.
Has a couple of placed efforts to his name in modest novice/maiden company but a terrible effort when tried in handicap company last time and hard to find much of an excuse for it. Can only be watched unless there's market support.
C&D winner here in April but still some 10lb higher here and that after some moderate efforts latest, well beaten here last time out and now needs a recovery in form if he's to get close. Others preferred.
In good form, winning at Uttoxeter (well backed, despite being well out of the handicap) and then another solid effort at Warwick the week after. However, tries new trip here and it's not guaranteed to suit. May need to find a bit more.
Shown next to nothing in four starts and hard to make any sort of a case for, despite going into handicap company today.
Forecasts
Cousin Oscar (7/2), Black Buble (9/2), Erick Le Rouge (6/1), Hastrubal (7/1), Soiesauvage (15/2), Aliandy (10/1), Volt Face (10/1), Lissycasey (12/1), Chebsey Beau (16/1), Yorgonnahearmeroar (20/1), Shadow Sadness (33/1), Free Range (33/1), Man Of The North (33/1), Dalasiri (50/1)
Not only does this look open, but the waters could be muddied by a lack of pace, making this a race to treat with a bit of caution. ALIANDY has an absence to overcome but this ground and trip could be ideal and with the yard having plenty of winners, this might be the time to catch him. Similar comments apply to Hastrubal, who still looks very nicely treated and, if fit after an absence, could easily have a say in proceedings. Erick Le Rouge looks a likely improver and should be thereabouts and Chebsey Beau is always capable of popping up in this grade too.
- Aliandy
- Hastrubal
- Erick Le Rouge
