Stays well and is a C&D winner from a 7lb lower mark here in January, so has some plus points, but some subsequent efforts did rather suggest the handicapper was in charge and he may need the rain to come to hold best chance on return today.

Perfect Poison48

Looked a useful sort when winning back-to-back handicaps in 2016 but long absence since then, and didn't really show enough when when beaten on return at Uttoxeter earlier in the month. Best watched until showing a bit more.

Steadily improving and defeat of subsequent scorer Beautiful People at Southwell in July reads well. Almost came good again over this C&D last time out and, as long as the rain stays away, every chance of going one better from a 2lb higher mark.

Close second over C&D from this mark in August offers him every chance here but a couple of moderate efforts since then take a bit more explaining away. New yard may need more time with him, and others preferred.

Captain Simon28
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-9| J: Harry Skelton| T: D Skelton| OR:  102

Looks to have been brought along with handicaps in mind, and his staying-on second at Southwell over shorter last time hinted at better to come. Lightly raced, will improve and a major player for top yard here.

His Dream26
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-9| J: R P McLernon| T: J & A O'Neill| OR:  102
10/1
Looked to have refound some form when a winner in August but, like many from the yard, efforts since then very patchy and hard to predict what sort of mood he'll be in here. Possibilities if turning up with A-game but that is far from a given.

Oregon Gold170
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-7| J: Henry Brooke| T: N Kent| OR:  100

Going nowhere quickly at present and switch to handicap company has not produced any improvement in him. Early days and could bounce back, but knowing when is hard to predict.

Outrageous Romanap43
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-5| J: Edward Austin(7)| T: J G M O'Shea| OR:  98| CD

Rattled off the wins in the summer, taking three from four starts. May have been outclassed on latest start and will find this easier but equally could be the handicapper has caught up with her now. Needs rain to stay away as well.

El Scorpio164
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-0| J: P J Brennan| T: J Groucott| OR:  93
15/2
Only showed a modicum of ability in novice hurdles but far from disgraced on handicap debut here in May and may improve for step up in trip. Yard can land the odd gamble here so watch the market for a clue.

Second in heavy ground at Hexham in March offers some hope but that's really his only solid piece of form and conditions will be a world away from that here. Not hard to look elsewhere.

The Lion Manp20
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-0| J: Lorcan Murtagh(3)| T: R Dickin| OR:  76
33/1
Found a very weak race at Southwell in May but some dreadful efforts since then, is still 5lb higher here and yard can't find any meaningful form. Not hard to look elsewhere for the winner.

How Much Is Enough17
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-0| J: T J Phelan| T: Mrs Stella Barclay| OR:  68
100/1
Shown next to nothing and more letters than numbers in her form. Goes handicapping off a basement mark but well out of the handicap and no realistic chance here.

Forecasts

Captain Simon (5/2), Flying Verse (7/2), Tailor Tom (5/1), Outrageous Romana (11/2), El Scorpio (15/2), His Dream (10/1), Perfect Poison (20/1), Turtle Cask (20/1), Oregon Gold (33/1), The Lion Man (33/1), Mullaghboy (50/1), How Much Is Enough (100/1)

Verdict

Probably not that many with chances on form, and FLYING VERSE may not need to do much more than repeat his latest effort over C&D to get his head in front here. Captain Simon looks an obvious danger and is a likely improver at this trip, and His Dream would be a big threat if getting out the right side of bed. A bit of money for El Scorpio would make him of some interest at a likely big price.
