Triple winner over 5f-6f this season and went close over this trip at Newcastle (AW) last time. Each-way claims back on turf from this mark.
Has been in decent form on soft ground recently. Beaten ¾L from this mark at Beverley (7f) last time out and should go close again.
On a 22-race losing run. Third at Yarmouth in May (7f, soft), when 15lb higher, but form has been significantly below that since then. Not written off, however, and support would make him very interesting.
Below par on her last three starts, but now back on her last winning mark. If able to reproduce that or some of her other Yarmouth efforts here, she would go very close. Acts on good to soft.
Comfortably held on all three starts since joining this yard and has now dropped a stone in the process. One to watch for the moment, unless the market speaks in his favour.
Has gone almost two years since last winning over this trip at Newcastle (AW), when 15lb higher. Drops a further 1lb after a couple of decent efforts in two recent 2L defeats (one here over 6f). Not ruled out.
All four wins on turf have come at Brighton (7f-1m, on good or faster ground). 3lb higher than the best of those here and up against it on recent evidence.
13-race maiden, but back in better form of late and beaten just 1½L from 1lb higher (first-time eye shield) at Yarmouth (1m, good to soft) last time. Drops in trip, but merits consideration.
1-20, having got off the mark at the 18th attempt at Yarmouth (7f, good to soft) in August, when 1lb lower. Held from this mark in both runs at around 1m since then, but not ruled out back over this trip.
Inconsistent, but has had two good days from five since joining this trainer, winning here over 1m (good to firm) and also at Nottingham (1m½f). Slower ground, shorter trip and this 2lb higher mark are all concerns.
Enjoys getting his toe in and scored for the fourth time when 5lb lower at Ayr (soft) on his penultimate start. Another good effort when 1L fourth from 1lb higher last time. Short-listed.
Second over 6f (good) at Epsom on stable debut last time, having dropped to this mark. Is a dual winner on good to soft, while the return to this trip offers scope for improvement. Strong claims.
Scored over C&D (soft) last season, when 2lb higher, and again from that mark at Chepstow in June. Inconsistent sine then, but handicapper has given him a chance here and he is not written off.
Acts on soft ground. Below par on his last two starts, including here over 6f last time. 1lb higher than his last win, but has plenty to prove over 7f judged on previous efforts.
Yet to get competitive in three novice runs over 7f-1m. Enters handicaps on a stiff enough mark and looks to have plenty on his plate.
Forecasts
Desert Dream (7/2), Young John (5/1), Mr Strutter (8/1), Roaring Forties (8/1), Eponina (10/1), Oswald (10/1), Canford's Joy (10/1), La Isla Bonita (12/1), Suzi's Connoisseur (14/1), Ballymount (16/1), Spinart (16/1), Singing The Blues (20/1), Wahaab (25/1), Berlios (50/1), Andalusite (50/1)
Several in here have claims, including Roaring Forties, who arrives in decent form, Desert Dream and La Isla Bonita. However, preference is for CANFORD'S JOY, who goes well on the forecast ground and has scope for improvement now back over this trip on his second start for Amy Murphy. Mr Strutter, Young John and Oswald are others not ruled out, with Spinart and Wahaab others who can't be written off.
- Canford's Joy
- Roaring Forties
- La Isla Bonita
