First-time cheekpieces (retained now) brought an improver effort in 3m handicap hurdle at Limerick a fortnight ago. Has to find a bit more back over fences from 9lb higher mark.
Three-time winner over fences in the past, though not since 2016. Has mostly been a struggle in this sphere of late (hurdles scorer at Downpatrick in June) and others preferred again, despite addition of new headgear.
A 147-rated chaser at his best, the 10-year-old has most been toiling this year. Ran best race for a while at Gowran Park (3m1f, good) this month, perhaps will be relishing that sort of stamina test in twilight of his career.
Hasn't got his head in front since 2015 but pair of recent runner-up finishes at Downpatrick and Galway over slightly shorter trips have advertised well-being. Likely to go close once more despite inching up ratings in defeat.
Out of luck in three starts over the larger obstacles since winning at this track in July over 3m1f and has to prove this sharper trip is what he wants now.
Produced a career-best when winning eight-runner handicap chase at Listowel last month over 2m1f on soft going, having been allowed dictate from the front. Poor effort since at Galway but not one to give too much rope to.
Has won around this track over hurdles, latest in May 2017, though mostly out of form this year and 0-9 record over large obstacles doesn't inspire.
Some fair form over hurdles/fences this year and career-best last time at Fairyhouse (2m5f, good), travelling strongly and pulling away for decisive success. Up 8lb but remains of interest.
Fair hurdler, no win but some promise in six chase starts so far. Disappointed on handicap bow in this sphere at Roscommon so something to prove now, though jockey booking has to be a plus.
Slightly fortuitous winner of Tramore novice chase on New Year's Day (bumped and unseated main rival late on), off since listless hurdles run at Gowran Park in January and makes handicap chase debut now with first-time cheekpieces on.
Forecasts
Neddyvaughan (2/1), Conduct Yourself (5/1), Gentleman Duke (6/1), Presenting Mahler (7/1), Ask Nile (15/2), Peculiar Genius (10/1), Adimelo (10/1), Killiney Court (14/1), Shanpallas (16/1), Mr Picotee (50/1)
Gentleman Duke has filled the runner-up berth on his last two starts and looks likely to mount another bold bid having been foiled at Galway last time. He will surely go well but the strong-travelling NEDDYVAUGHAN seemed to have plenty in hand at Fairyhouse last time and may defy the assessor by adding to his tally. Presenting Mahler would be dangerous if offered a soft lead while Peculiar Genius could have more to offer returning to action in a handicap. Shanpallas, once classy, may struggle to build on a good run at Gowran Park now dropped in trip, though the betting should be monitored in his case.
- Neddyvaughan
- Gentleman Duke
- Peculiar Genius
