Winning handicap hurdler who has taken really well to chasing landing two of her first three starts. This looks a much tougher task though and under her penalties she might find this company too hot to handle.
Very lightly raced ex-French gelding, winner of listed Auteuil hurdle more than two years ago. Runner-up in good novice chase only outing last term and has clearly been hard to train. Returns following wind surgery and could be anything.
Decent staying handicap hurdler who won Ascot maiden hurdle last term before running with credit in three subsequent starts. Looks type to make a chaser but faces a stiff task on chasing bow.
Landed Worcester 2m4f handicap hurdle in July then ran poorly on fast ground at Ffos Las last time. Easier ground should help on chasing bow but on hurdles form has a lot to find with a number of his rivals.
Very progressive hurdler who went close in Grade 1 company at Aintree in April 2017. Excellent fourth after year absence at Aintree this April, then fell when in touch at Haydock last start. Exciting chasing recruit. Yard in good form.
Won Grade 2 River Don Novices Hurdle on soft ground at Doncaster over three miles last winter and not disgraced in three hot events subsequently. Always looked type to make a chaser so is of interest in first time cheekpieces.
Best in testing ground and dead-heated in Catterick novice hurdle last term on heavy. The more rain the better but has to improve plenty on timber form to make a winning chase bow in this good company.
Won Grade 3 handicap hurdle in March 2017 and followed up at Punchestown Festival a month later. Only two runs last season but showed he retains ability and was a fine second at Galway Festival on return in August. Could make a good chaser.
Four runs under Rules, winning Towcester 2m5f novice hurdle last December but absent since distant third here over nearly three miles in February. Handed tough assignment for first chase outing and may well prove better for the experience.
Forecasts
Minella Awards (6/5), Enniscoffey Oscar (7/2), Chameron (6/1), Debece (13/2), Drinks Interval (10/1), Clondaw Native (12/1), Pauls Hill (33/1), Jaunty Flyer (50/1), Court Duty (100/1)
Arguably the best three-mile novice chase so far this term and there are a number of strong candidates. Following a fine effort over hurdles at the Galway Festival in August, MINELLA AWARDS may be a shade sharper than one or two of his main rivals and is taken to make a winning chase debut. Debece could be a big danger given his smart Grade 1 hurdles form, and so too could Grade 2 hurdles winner Enniscoffey Oscar, the unexposed Chameron, and the talented Clondaw Native. Drinks Interval has done well this summer in lesser company but may find this tough under her penalties.
