8/1
Gained sole career success at Downpatrick (2m6f, yielding to soft) in March 2017 (rated 96) and struggled over fences after joining this trainer. Better effort last time over hurdles at Roscommon (3m), though trip may be sharp here.

Has failed to build on an encouraging display in a 2m Kilbeggan handicap hurdle in May when finishing second of 14, suffering heavy defeats since, latest at Galway Festival in August. Plenty to find on recent offerings.

Unplaced in six starts in maiden hurdles, doesn't look progressive and probably best watched having unseated rider early on handicap bow at Gowran Park (2m, good) already this month.

Confirmed hints of promise when winning 2m1f Clonmel maiden hurdle this month, making all the running. Opening mark no gimme, but gets the decent ground he appears to need.

First two starts over timber were uninspiring, much-improved to finish second at Ballinrobe (2m, good to yielding) in August. Makes handicap debut now.

Better effort at Downpatrick last time with a hood (retained). Still got work to do though and arguably needs some relief from the assessor.

May have needed the run at Kilbeggan in August, duly got within 3¼L of the winner when finishing fifth at Roscommon (2m, good) this month. Should be competitive.

Warnaq28
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-2| J: A E Lynch| T: M J Smith| OR:  103

Winner on the Flat at Navan (1m, heavy) in April, hadn't convinced previously in three maiden hurdles starts however and not exactly thrown in by the handicapper here.

Effernock Lad26
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-13| J: M P Flanagan(5)| T: G Keane| OR:  96| D

3-20 over hurdles and last won in 2016 at Sligo, didn't run badly last month at Galway over similar trip on yielding to soft ground off this rating. Has a chance.

Toor Generalt12
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-11| J: D N Russell| T: A J Martin| OR:  94| D
3/1
Finally rewarded connections for their support with Roscommon success this month over 2m on good ground, staying on well to score. Raised 5lb, should stay competitive at least.

Chosen Flowert22
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-4| J: Phillip Enright| T: V T O'Brien| OR:  87

Improved on handicap bow at Ballinrobe (2m½f, soft to heavy) last month, finishing third of 11. Mark unchanged, must dig out some more to improve on that result.

Rosserk Abbey57
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-4| J: John J Fitzpatrick(7)| T: S Hanlon| OR:  87

Fruits of Love gelding hasn't shown enough in three starts under rules to merit support, with three-race maiden hurdle career lacking promise. Handicapping for the first time now.

Horse silk
Kinnagoe Boyh115
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-0| J: C D Maxwell| T: J G Carr| OR:  83
33/1
Well held in all hurdles starts to date including in handicaps the last three outings. Hard to fancy on all known evidence and minor role likely having unseated recently at Downpatrick. Hood added.

Forecasts

Toor General (3/1), Warnaq (5/1), Mandarin Monarch (6/1), Pass Hymn (7/1), Effernock Lad (8/1), Tyrrell's Succes (8/1), Ronald Pump (10/1), Knock On Steel (11/1), Rock On Dandy (22/1), Chosen Flower (25/1), Double Speak (25/1), Kinnagoe Boy (33/1), Rosserk Abbey (66/1)

Verdict

Tyrrell's Succes produced a much better effort last time at Roscommon and would be of some interest, though drop right down to 2m is a worry. Toor General finally rewarded connections with a win at Roscommon last time, he's up 5lb for that and should go well again while Effernock Lad ran well at Galway last month and could harbour place claims. Mandarin Monarch has a handy pull at the weights with Toor General and is respected but handicap debutant KNOCK ON STEEL justified market support to land a Clonmel maiden last time and should go well with decent ground to suit now.
  1. Knock On Steel
  2. Mandarin Monarch
  3. Effernock Lad
