110,000gns juvenile; reverts back to the AW for his handicap debut having won over 6f at Chelmsford in August (1/6f); beaten at similar short odds at Redcar latest; first attempt at 7f.

8/1
Runner-up over 6f at this track in May (beaten a neck), and has continued to perform with credit over 7f since (mainly on turf); 2lb higher than when beaten 1L by Iron Sky at Catterick (7f, good).

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-6| J: George Bass(7)| T: D M Simcock| OR:  74| D
12/1
Has done plenty of his racing in excess of 1m, but was dropped back to 7f when readily justifying favouritism at Chelmsford recently (fourth has won since); a subsequent 8lb rise is effectively negated by the 7lb claim of George Bass.

Knowing Glance28
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: D Nolan| T: R A Fahey| OR:  73| D

Lacks AW experience (0-1); finished two places and 3½L behind Saisons D'Or when fourth of 11 to Iron Sky at Catterick (7f, good) latest.

10/1
Dropping in the weights (9lb) following a trio of fairly modest efforts in handicap company (7f-1m); however, this looks to be a weaker race on paper, and he was a Wolverhampton novice winner (7f) in July 2017.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: D C Costello| T: K Dalgleish| OR:  70

Not beaten all that far over 5f on soft ground at Ayr latest, but generally stronger over further; form figures at this track (over 1m) read 2,2,4,3; stable continuing in form.

Dream Mount59
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: G Lee| T: Miss J A Camacho| OR:  70WS
25/1
Competes from a career low mark (70) following wind surgery since his run at Redcar in August (7f); 1-8 on the AW, so no surface worries; interesting to see if the market provides any positive signals.

Harvest Dayt87
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: Nathan Evans| T: M & D Easterby| OR:  68| DWS
20/1
2-2 over 7f on the AW (Wolverhampton and Chelmsford winner in early 2018); had largely continued to progress on turf until a modest run at Chester in July; first start back since wind surgery.

Montana Dawn133
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: Jason Hart| T: T D Barron| OR:  68
33/1
Placed on soft ground in a 6f fillies' novice at Doncaster in April, but off the track since late May when finishing a close up fourth of 12 (on handicap debut) at Leicester (6f, good); should stay 7f on pedigree.

Harbour Vision14
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-13| J: K Stott| T: D H Brown| OR:  67| D
25/1
25/1 7f Chelmsford novice winner (made all) in September 2017, but difficult to consider on the basis of his handicap form in 2018; dropped 5lb since finishing sixth of eight (beaten in excess of 10L) at Chelmsford recently.

Billy Wedge19
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-10| J: L Morris| T: Miss Tracy Waggott| OR:  64
28/1
Dropped 4lb since racing over 1m at Pontefract in September, finished a weakening tenth of 13; shorter trip will suit on AW debut.

Tangasseri28
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: J P Sullivan| T: Mrs R Carr| OR:  62
80/1
0-4 on turf, and safely held by a couple of tonight's rivals on recent Catterick form; dam was an AW winner (5f), but surely isn't the solution here on Tapeta (& AW) debut.

Jimmy Geronimov115
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-7| J: Rowan Scott(3)| T: R J Osborne| OR:  55

Eight race maiden; makes his AW debut wearing a first-time visor, but from out of the handicap; unconsidered.

Forecasts

Field Gun (6/4), Burford Brown (3/1), Saisons D'Or (8/1), Global Humor (10/1), Plentyinthetanksir (12/1), Knowing Glance (12/1), Broken Wings (16/1), Harvest Day (20/1), Harbour Vision (25/1), Dream Mount (25/1), Billy Wedge (28/1), Montana Dawn (33/1), Tangasseri (80/1), Jimmy Geronimo (80/1)

Verdict

A competitive finale with the handicap newcomer Field Gun on the shortlist now upped in trip despite a short odds defeat at Redcar (6f) last month. C&D maiden winner Burford Brown and the returning (but unexposed) Montana Dawn are capable of making a positive impression. Plentyinthetanksir lived up to his name when dropped back to 7f, and winning readily at Lingfield, and is effectively unpenalised with 7lb claimer George Bass taking over in the saddle from Jamie Spencer, but we'll side with the consistent SAISONS D'OR who has run well all season between 6f and 7f.
  1. Saisons D'Or
  2. Plentyinthetanksir
  3. Field Gun
