Off the mark over hurdles at the sixth attempt at Galway in a maiden (2m5½f, soft) last time. Enters handicaps on the same mark and should again be competitive.
Won a Wexford maiden hurdle (3m, good) last year, but 0-7 in handicaps and comfortably held again from this mark last time. Not ruled out of the frame, but more needed for the win.
Has won a bumper, a hurdle and a chase in a 26-race career. Stays 3m and is not ground dependent. Better effort in a Flat race last time and feasibly treated on his best, but it is whether he can produce it that is open to question.
Placed in a Group 3 over 1m4f at Goodwood in 2016, but has yet to make the frame in eight attempts over hurdles, the last four of which were all from just 1lb higher. More needed to finish in the money again.
Has put in some respectable effort over hurdles, winning a Sligo maiden contest two starts ago (2m½f, good), albeit in June 2017. Last seen a month later. Returns with fitness to prove, headgear on and on a handy mark. Interesting.
Has put in several promising efforts over hurdles, all at 2m3½f. Steps up in trip here, which looks positive. Unexposed and has claims.
Veteran who is without a win since 2015, when 13lb higher. Still capable of being competitive over both hurdles and fences from this sort of mark, but probably wise to look elsewhere for the winner.
Has won over 2m5f and more recently scored over 2m4f at Ballinrobe, when 8lb lower. Respectable effort in defeat from this mark last time, and not yet fully exposed, but more needed for a third career win.
Maiden hurdle winner whose latest success came in a Tipperary chase (2m4f, good) in July, when 5lb lower. Returns to hurdles in decent form from chasing. Each-way claims.
Has gone close on three occasions over hurdles, most recently here over 2m3½f in a maiden. That is encouraging, but less so is her 15L defeat from just 3lb higher when last seen in a handicap. Not written off, but has a bit to prove.
Reasonably consistent performer who is 0-8 so far, but produced marginally her best effort yet when 2L fourth over C&D last time. Up 1lb, but is an each-way player.
1-23. Scored at Killarney (2m4f, good) in July, when 6lb lower. Unable to reproduce that form over either hurdles, or more recently fences, since. Up against it.
Unable to have a say at the business end of any of his 11 starts under rules. Can only watch.
Forecasts
Plan Of Attack (5/1), The Major General (13/2), Oighear Dubh (7/1), Yeats Mardy (7/1), Sweet Home Chicago (8/1), Presentingprincess (8/1), Movingswiftlyalong (8/1), Harrys Gift (10/1), First To Boogie (12/1), Railway Muice (14/1), Queen Khaleesi (20/1), Father Mattie (25/1), Coolmill (33/1)
Not an easy race to call, but FATHER MATTIE is the suggestion. Admittedly, he has fitness to prove, but he is on what looks to be a handy mark for this return from an absence and a first-time cheekpieces/tongue-strap combination could also help. Plan Of Attack is feared now stepping up in trip, while Presentingprincess, Sweet Home Chicago, Olghear Dubh and Yeats Mardy all make some appeal.
- Father Mattie
- Plan Of Attack
- Oighear Dubh
