Built upon a good fourth (behind Displaying Amber and Little Kingdom) when justifying favouritism over C&D on Friday evening; escapes a penalty for that apprentice race win.
Broke her duck at the 20th attempt when scoring narrowly over C&D in August, beating the subsequent winner Brendan by a nose; has twice come up short since.
Held on by a neck to win on handicap debut (for Brett Johnson) over 6f at Kempton in March; has failed to add to that success, but sits on her last winning mark of 55.
£26,000 yearling; produced a much improved effort on handicap debut over 5f at Catterick last month (close up fourth to Boudica Bay); has AW winners in his pedigree, and this Middleham based handler often saddles winners at this track.
Comfortable 5f turf winner at Nottingham in August (beat Madam Devious - runs earlier - by 2¾L); poor run on the AW at Wolverhampton latest, and 0-9 on synthetics overall; visor now applied.
Mark on the slide after some unconvincing runs at Ayr (5f-6f) throughout the summer; close up until no extra inside the final furlong there (5f, soft) latest; beaten a neck on his last AW start over C&D in May (and now 5lb lower); chance.
Shock 28/1 winner in a fast paced C&D handicap last month (subsequent winner and re-opposing rival Another Angel fourth); races off a 4lb higher mark tonight in retained cheekpieces.
Hasn't won since June 2017, and was never better than midfield (eighth) on his return to the AW behind today's rivals Displaying Amber and Another Angel last month.
Has failed to hit the back of the net just yet (eight-race maiden), but has form on artificial surfaces which suggests that he'll find a suitable opportunity eventually; finished third to Midnight Guest in a 5f (Class 7) at Lingfield latest.
12-race maiden; 25/1, beaten just a nose and a head when third to Sienna Says over C&D last month, but has reverted to type since and couldn't be supported with any degree of confidence.
1-23; that win coming at odds of 12/1 over C&D in February 2017; has often played second fiddle to her likeable stablemate Windforpower at this track since, and finished a close up third (beaten 1¼L) behind Displaying Amber latest; no back number.
No joy in bumpers, or in a 1m4f Flat maiden for previous handler Lisa Williamson, and not much better in two spins in 6f novices for this trainer; wears cheekpieces for handicap debut.
Twice a winner on turf (6f Catterick), but 0-4 on the AW and comfortably held by Displaying Amber (and others) based upon recent C&D form.
6f Wolverhampton winner (October 2016), but that's all he has to show for 22 career starts; off the track for 13 months and surely won't be winning anything tonight.
Forecasts
Another Angel (11/4), Star Cracker (10/3), Pavlichenko (15/2), Displaying Amber (8/1), Oriental Splendour (11/1), Sienna Says (12/1), Little Kingdom (14/1), Encoded (20/1), Poppy Jag (22/1), The Bull (25/1), Compton Abbey (28/1), Nifty Niece (33/1), Mr Conundrum (150/1), Sasheeda (150/1)
Plenty of C&D form with which to work. The likes of Displaying Amber (winner), Little Kingdom (third) and Friday's unpenalised scorer Another Angel (fourth) are expected to figure competitively judged upon last month's frenetic C&D clash. Others to consider include the unexposed Ben Haslam-trained The Bull and the filly Sienna Says. However, the clear vote goes to Jim Goldie's STAR CRACKER under the very capable handling of Danny Tudhope. Not the most consistent on turf at Ayr over the summer months, but the handicapper has taken a real chance in dropping his AW mark by 5lb (to 50), and that can be exploited sooner rather than later.
- Star Cracker
- Another Angel
- The Bull
