No impression on the leaders from two out in a Kilbeggan 2m handicap hurdle on return to action over timber for two years. Looks vulnerable in this company.

19 race maiden who is without a win in nine starts over hurdles and has been unable to halt the alarming slide in form during a dismal summer campaign. Others hold stronger profiles.

Flemensfirth gelding dam was a fair staying hurdles winner, half-sister to useful hurdler/smart chaser Across The Bay. Well beaten in three hurdle starts to date. Looks to be a future prospect.

Forecasts

Toor General (11/2), Grand Canyon (11/2), Mandarin Monarch (6/1), Trenchtown Rock (6/1), Ciankyle (7/1), Comehere Hi (8/1), Rain In Spain (9/1), Thatbeatsbanagher (9/1), Rathnaleen Girl (10/1), Trump Sixteen (14/1), A Place Apart (16/1), Sierra Law (20/1), Kansas Kid (20/1)

Verdict

The six-year-old GRAND CANYON was a 71-rated handicapper on the Flat and got off the mark over hurdles at the sixth time of asking for connections winning a Ballinrobe handicap hurdle last month by 2¾L. The 9lb rise seems fair given the manor of the win and the High Chaparral-gelding can hold off the attentions of the hat-trick seeking, Rain In Spain and Wexford winner Trenchtown Rock who can continue his improvement here. C&D winner Ciankyle could go better than his price suggests.
  1. Grand Canyon
  2. Rain In Spain
  3. Ciankyle
