Now 3-3 over fences having won in France and scored over similar trip to this on good ground at Newton Abbot last month, player again having gone up 7lb for the win.
Has become inconsistent, winner last year over 3m at Kempton, well beaten in both 2018 runs and perhaps best watched on seasonal bow.
Novice chase winner over 2m4f at Carlisle (good-to-soft) at the end of March, pulled up at Ayr next time and unconvincing at Southwell last month on return to action.
Couple of wins last year at Bangor and Worcester over 3m, held in pair of recent runs, including last month at Worcester once more from this increased chasing mark. Has work to do.
Been running well of late without winning and didn't shape too badly last time back over fences at Stratford, drops in trip slightly and needs some extra.
Plenty of question marks although handicap mark within his compass at best, three starts this summer have been uninspiring and seems best watched at the moment.
Built on several good efforts when winning at Perth last month over 2m4f. Competitive once more from this mark at Uttoxeter six days ago and no reason he won't be in the firing line again.
Consistent over fences, winning two of first four and runner-up twice, held over C&D in July (9½L fourth) and has inched up another pound since, ensuring further progress is demanded off short break.
C&D winner in July 2017, just one further start over fences, well beaten at Cartmel last month but comes here off a Flat success at Musselburgh and far from out of things.
Took advantage of much-reduced handicap mark to score over 2m4f at Uttoxeter in July, duly went back up 8lb and fourth at Cartmel on soft going last month. Should be in the mix.
Finished 22L third of four in 3m novice handicap chase at Southwell this month on first start over fences / return from 337-days off. Should be more to come.
Wincanton winner over 2m4f in April off a mark of 116, fair third next time at Kempton off this mark over 3m and should go well down in trip of a layoff.
Closing in on two years without a win now, some promise shown last month at Southwell (third) over this sort of trip, less so since at Stratford (2m6½f, good) and must bounce back, Johnson stays on board.
Forecasts
Not A Role Model (4/1), Buster Thomas (4/1), Jovial Joey (9/2), Candy Burg (7/1), Chebsey Beau (8/1), Cusheen Bridge (10/1), Exitas (12/1), Special Prep (12/1), Ballycrystal (16/1), Earthmoves (16/1), Cuirassier Dempire (20/1), Mont Royale (20/1), Gallery Exhibition (50/1)
NOT A ROLE MODEL eventually finished fourth in the Summer Plate over C&D in July have made plenty of the running but not really getting own way up top. This is seemingly less taxing on paper and he could be harder to pass today. Candy Burg has won his three starts over fences, two of them in France, and Olly Murphy's charge remains unexposed and is greatly feared. Jovial Joey is good heart right now while any money for the returning Buster Thomas should be noted.
- Not A Role Model
