Dual 1m4f winner, including on soft. Took three attempts to convince over this trip, but did so last time when a neck second at Yarmouth (good to firm) from this mark. A repeat of that career-best, or better, would give him serious claims.

2lb worse off for a 2¾L defeat by Elegiac at Newmarket (1m4f, soft) in July. Won next time, back there over 1m6f (good to firm), when 5lb lower. Well held in Listed company last time and has a bit to prove from this mark back in a handicap.

Best effort to date was when winning decisively at Newmarket (1m5f, good to firm) in June, from 7lb lower. Not disgraced from this mark on only subsequent starts. Handles soft, remains unexposed, but more needed to win this.

Improving profile and proved he handles a bit of cut when winning a Leicester novice (1m) last year. Beaten just ½L from 2lb lower on nursery debut at Chester last time. Bit to prove over as far as this, but not ruled out.

Conditions look ideal for this dual winner, who scored from 5lb lower at Leicester (1m4f) in April. However, has twice been comfortably or well held from this mark since, so needs improvement to figure.

Improving gelding, who took a big step forward last time when an 8L winner in a Wolverhampton novice event (1m4f, AW). Looks to be entering nurseries on a handy mark based on that. If he handles soft ground then he has claims.

Dual winner at up to 1m3½f. More exposed than most of these and, while he has each-way claims from the same mark as last time, he needs improvement to win.

Fannie By Gaslight12
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-3| J: F Norton| T: M R Channon| OR:  76
8/1
Showed good improvement when drawing clear for an 8L win on soft at Goodwood (1m4f) two starts ago and was not far off that form from this 8lb higher mark at Ffos Las (1m2f) last time. Has stamina to prove over this far but not ruled out.

Forecasts

Canford Heights (2/1), Elegiac (5/2), Morning Wonder (7/1), Fannie By Gaslight (8/1), Mt Augustus (8/1), Neverbeen To Paris (12/1), Amourice (20/1), Rayna's World (25/1)

Verdict

A tough race to call with Elegiac looking as though he will again be a serious player, Mt Augustus unexposed and not ruled out, and several others who merit respect. However, CANFORD HEIGHTS enters this sphere on a mark that looks workable, he handles soft ground and he is taken to follow up his novice success.
  1. Canford Heights
  2. Elegiac
  3. Mt Augustus
