Hasn't stood much racing over recent years, but is clearly talented (3-6 over hurdles); Class 2 handicap winner off 135 at Kempton (2m5f, good) in November 2017 before a respectable seventh of 25 at the Punchestown Festival (April 2017); off since.
Very well suited by a test of stamina as he proved when ploughing through soft ground at Cartmel (3m1f) last month to beat Court King by 17L; subsequent 10lb rise to a career high mark the potential stumbling block.
Can go well fresh, and has a Perth record which reads 1,2; dropped 2lb since his last start at Carlisle (2m1f) in March, but remains 15lb above his last winning mark, and that's excessive; runner-up to Sun Cloud in this race in 2017.
Not always the easiest to predict, but knows how to win races over hurdles (5-21); three of those wins (2m-2m6f) have come post wind surgery, so that's obviously helped enormously; well beaten (fifth) behind Nautical Nitwit latest.
Proved well suited by wind surgery, rising 24lb in the weights since bolting up over C&D in June (Class 4); freshened up with a short break since his last start; 2-2 at Perth, but faces a very tough task to make it 3-3.
Fended off today's rival Ahead Of The Curve when taking this race by in excess of 2L in 2017 (heavy), and followed up off an 8lb higher mark at Sedgefield (3m3f) next time; ended last season in the grip of the assessor, more to do today.
Back to winning ways at Carlisle in March (2m3f+ good to soft), but the handicapper over-reacted initially for that success prior to relenting after a poor run at Cartmel (2m6f) in May; others more appealing.
Stablemate of Ibsen; no hurdles win since August 2016 (3m, Bellewstown); placed over 2m6f at Killarney in July (hurdles), but wide of the mark since in a couple of spins over fences; tough assignment.
Notched a seventh hurdles win when making most of the running to score by an ever widening 17L at Worcester (2m7f, good) last week, and competes under the mandatory 7lb penalty; remains of interest in a deeper race.
Ended last season high in the weights over hurdles and switched to fences (far less proficient) as a result; stays well and handles cut; still 13lb above her last winning mark and far better suited by Kelso than anywhere else.
Progressive youngster who bolted up in a 2m4f maiden hurdle (soft) here in April, and has the potential to do better with more experience; pitched in deep on handicap debut, but little to lose in having a go at this good prize; chance.
Most effective when allowed to dictate the pace out in front (unchallenged); returned from a moderate spell of form when doing exactly that at Cartmel (2m6f, good to soft) latest; 5lb higher today.
Not at his best in 2018 (ran on the Flat at Listowel recently), but is a capable hurdler when on song (2-21), albeit with his last hurdles win coming as a novice in 2015; jockey bookings suggest that he's the pick of the Elliott-trained duo.
Runner-up at Market Rasen (2m4f, good) in July, but unable to land a blow on the 9L winner High Secret; stable in form, but faces a tricky looking assignment in this company.
Vastly improved performer for Tristan Davidson, and unfortunate not to be 4-4 for the stable (beaten a short-head at Cartmel in July); 10lb higher than when a comfortable 3¼L winner over C&D (Class 4) latest; merits respect.
Forecasts
Justatenner (9/2), Blue Flight (9/2), Rolling Maul (6/1), North Hill (8/1), Younevercall (17/2), Jack Devine (9/1), Nautical Nitwit (10/1), Ibsen (12/1), Ahead of The Curve (16/1), Top Of The Town (22/1), William Of Orange (28/1), Bon Chic (33/1), Sun Cloud (40/1), Apache Jack (40/1), Total Assets (66/1)
A competitive handicap in which many of those towards the top-end of the weights face difficult tasks. 2017 first and second Sun Cloud and Ahead Of The Curve both fall into this bracket as does the dual Perth scorer Jack Devine. However, at the foot of the weights, the bang in-form Justatenner has proved to be a revelation for Tristan Davidson (3-4) and is worthy of immense respect despite a 10lb rise. Blue Flight is another with a lightweight who merits serious consideration. He is a lightly-raced youngster almost certainly capable of winning more races, but last week's Worcester winner ROLLING MAUL rates as the pick under a mandatory 7lb penalty.
- Rolling Maul
- Blue Flight
- Justatenner
