Minimal encouragement from three Flat runs in Ireland (1m) prior to joining Iain Jardine; well beaten on handicap debut at Ayr on Friday (1m, heavy), and now quickly heads off down the hurdling route with plenty to prove.
Three-time winner on the Flat (6f-7f); novicey when finishing runner-up on hurdles debut at Cartmel (2m1f, soft) last month, but finished 10L in front of today's rival Good Boy Alfie.
Unraced 14th foal by an unraced dam (Sweet Jaune); half-brother to nine winners including Viking Blond (2m7f-3m hurdle/chase) and Rosemauve (2m5f-2m7f hurdle).
Two-time Flat winner (7f-1m1f); posted a low-key hurdles debut at Cartmel (2m1f, soft) last month when finishing an outpaced third of four to Ormesher; 10L to find with today's rival Ghost Serge (second); trainer also saddles Uncle Vanny.

72-rated on the Flat (1-11), with that victory coming over an extended 7f at Beverley in June; not necessarily bred for a jumps career (dam unplaced as a juvenile between 6f-1m).

€30,000 foal, 11,000gns yearling; seventh foal who is closely related to the 6f juvenile winner High On Love; half-brother to a couple of winners including 2m hurdle scorer Intent; trainer also saddles Good Boy Alfie; market a guide.
13th foal, half-brother to nine winners including 2000 Guineas and King George winner Golan; offered precious little on the Flat (started off with Sir Michael Stoute); keen prior to weakening for a midfield finish on Down Royal (2m) hurdles bow.

Forecasts

Brandy James (10/11), Ghost Serge (9/2), Good Boy Alfie (5/1), William of Wykeham (7/1), Moltoir (14/1), Glenpark (33/1), Frame Rate (50/1), Uncle Vanny (66/1)

Verdict

A modest juvenile maiden hurdle to kick-off the Wednesday action at Perth, with hurdling experience expected to prove key to finding the winner. Ghost Serge finished 10L in front of third placed Good Boy Alfie when runner-up to Ormesher at Cartmel (2m1f) last month, but the suspicion is that wasn't the most competitive of races, and both horses will be vulnerable up against the Harry Whittington-trained BRANDY JAMES. His Worcester third to the more experienced Chief Justice (a subsequent Listowel winner for Gordon Elliott) represents solid form in the context of this race.
  1. Brandy James
  2. Ghost Serge
  3. Good Boy Alfie
