Tailed off over this trip at Limerick in July on seasonal bow and similar fate over timber at the Galway Festival since. Tries cheekpieces here but seemingly an unlikely player.

Hurdles winner at Gowran Park this time last year, continues to be rated 7lb higher over fences however and 1-20 in this sphere. Has been keeping better company this year so far, but still going to have to raise game to play leading role.

Has not progressed as much as connections would have expected following a win at Gowran Park in January. Has run in some good races, this is certainly easier but needs to get the jumping right, with an unseat and a fall on his record. Handle heavy.

Chase winner at Punchestown (2m6f, soft to heavy) in February 2017, has raced only intermittently since and not managed to get close to repeat of that form. Back from latest 212-day absence now and market may reveal expectations.

Winner of a mares' maiden hunter chase at Cork (3m, heavy) in April, also has two point-to-point wins this year. Back from summer recess and not one to write off on just third run under rules receiving weight all round.

Forecasts

Montalbano (4/7), Velocity Boy (9/4), Flaxen Flare (11/4), Dysios (8/1), Cloudy Day (16/1), Cable (25/1)

Verdict

Montalbano is the one with the best form but his jumping is hardly inspiring and the price looks short enough at odds-on in those circumstances. If he gets around safely, he's the likeliest winner. FLAXEN FLARE has waited a long time between drinks now but he continues to run sound races and wouldn't be a shock winner here. Dysios finds an easier race than some of his previous targets this year and should put a tame Galway effort behind him while money for the returning Velocity Boy would catch the eye.
