Course winner (1m2f) who ran well over C&D last season. Has been kept to shorter trips so far this season, winning a Ripon seller over 1m2f two starts ago. Decent effort at Catterick last time and should be thereabouts from same mark.
1-22 on turf, that success being four years ago before Newcastle introduced its Tapeta. Scored from 6lb higher at Wolverhampton over this trip 11-months ago, and ran well from 1lb higher at Ripon in June. Not written off.
0-12, but ran well enough over slightly shorter at Bath last time. 1lb lower again here, but still early days in this code and not ruled out.
C&D scorer on soft last year (acts on good to firm), when 2lb lower. Yet to get back to that level, but was not far off it at Nottingham on her penultimate start and back at this level she has claims.
Both his wins were in bumpers in 2015. Has improved with each run so far on the Flat. Enters handicaps on a fair-looking mark and with the stable's runners in reasonably good form, he could show up well.
Sole handicap success came over 1m4f at Thirsk (good) last season, when with Richard Ford, and from 15lb higher. Has been unable to get anywhere near that level this season and but went close from this mark at Beverley, so can't be ruled out.
Hurdles winner who makes his turf Flat debut here, arriving in this code with a 0-4 record from the All Weather. Cheekpieces added on second start for this trainer, and interesting jockey booking, so better effort not ruled out.
0-17 and beaten from this mark on his last three starts. Best watched.
Yet to make the frame from nine attempts, mainly over staying trips. Second start for a trainer who often does well in these sorts of races and any support for her could prove significant.
Has shown nothing either under rules or in point-to-points for some time. Can only watch.
Placed in a couple of hurdles, but never in the frame in 10 starts on turf on the Flat, plus another AW effort. Readily opposed.
Forecasts
Clenymistra (2/1), Legalized (4/1), Affair (5/1), Emperor Sakhee (7/1), Betancourt (8/1), Hattaab (11/1), Hussar Ballad (20/1), Siyahamba (25/1), Melabi (28/1), Hazy Manor (50/1), Perusal (150/1)
Moderate fayre and Tom George's north-east raid could pay off with HATTAAB, who ran well over a furlong shorter last time, but looked as though this trip would be a positive. A 1lb drop won't harm and he is the suggestion. Affair has to be considered a serious danger if in the form of her Nottingham run two starts ago, while Clenymistra, Emperor Sakhee and Melabi are others with claims.
- Hattaab
- Affair
- Emperor Sakhee
