An Fear Ciuinp23
Age: 7|  Weight: 12-0| J: Dale Irving(3)| T: R M Smith| OR:  107
11/1
Winner on the Flat at Hamilton in July, and bounced back to form when second of 5 to Galvin in a 2m maiden hurdle here last time. Not badly treated now handicapping, and stays this longer trip.

Celtic Flames99
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-13| J: D R Fox| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  106
18/1
Has two chase wins to his name over 2m although his form in between those two victories is rather patchy. Not disgraced back over hurdles here when last seen, but more required to defy current mark.
3
Horse silk
Michael James24
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-12| J: A W Short(5)| T: P Stafford| OR:  105
50/1
Modest dual-purpose maiden who seemed to run very well when fourth at Hexham in November, but that is very much a standout on his record, and he's harshly handicapped on balance of form.
4
Horse silk
Jaunty Thort143
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-10| J: R Johnson| T: G Elliott| OR:  103
6/4
Scored twice in the space of four days over hurdles in November 2016. Winless since, but second at Uttoxeter for Oliver Greenall in April, and has joined a shrewd yard, so no surprise to see an upturn in his fortunes.

Cold Shoulder204
Age: 4|  Weight: 11-9| J: M G Nolan| T: G Elliott| OR:  103
9/2
Half-brother Tagliatelle has done well for this yard. and this gelding improved when fourth of 8 to Fly du Charmil in handicap at Ffos Las on his final start for Tom Symonds. Can go well now.
6
Horse silk
Tangolanb,t23
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-9| J: C Brace(10)| T: F O'Brien| OR:  102| CD
18/1
Won twice over fences here last summer, but in something of a lull at present, and ran badly over hurdles at Market Rasen last time. Best left alone until showing his old spark.
7

Chasmat22
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-7| J: Harry Bannister| T: M & D Easterby| OR:  100| D
20/1
Not run over hurdles since December 2016, but some fair efforts over fences in the interim. Probably needed run when well beaten at Southwell last month, and this run should reveal more.
8
Horse silk
Ryalexh481
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-5| J: S Mulqueen(3)| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  98| BF
33/1
Only has one ear, hence the use of a hood, but genuine enough despite retaining maiden status under Rules. Ran well over fences when last seen in May, but may need this outing after a break.
9
Horse silk
Inniscastle Ladb18
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-2| J: B S Hughes| T: D McCain Jnr| OR:  95
22/1
Four times a winner on the Flat, but he's still looking for his first win over hurdles, and although he's been running respectably on the whole this season, there is no great momentum to his form.
10
Horse silk
Hey Listenp41
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-1| J: Blair Campbell(5)| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  94
20/1
Best effort this term when runner-up over 2m here in April; form has regressed since then, however, and well beaten twice here in July. Plenty to prove.

Horse silk
Cruachanp21
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-10| J: Grant Cockburn(3)| T: Mrs L B Normile| OR:  89| CD
33/1
Won a C&D handicap off 3lb lower last season, and well treated if finding that form, but he's been treading water since, and well held in a couple of outings last month after break.
12
Horse silk
Green Zone23
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-9| J: Henry Brooke| T: Miss L Harrison| OR:  88| CD
8/1
Struggling to make an impact of late, faring no better than fourth in six runs here this season. On the plus side, he's never really been disgraced, and has fallen like a stone in the weights. Will bounce back at some point.
13
Horse silk
Instingtive100
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-8| J: Callum Bewley| T: Miss L Harrison| OR:  87
66/1
Completed a heavy ground double when winning over 2m1f at Carlisle in March. Not in the same form away from the mud since, and latest effort at Hexham was poor.
14
Horse silk
Urban Kodep40
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-6| J: Thomas Willmott(7)| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  85| CD
28/1
Has only won one race in 27 starts. Handicap mark on the slide and ran okay at Musselburgh in March. May have needed the run after another break here last month, but others more appealing.
15
Horse silk
Gentleman Jamesp,t79
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-0| J: Jamie Hamilton| T: Mrs Dianne Sayer| OR:  76WS
18/1
Improved on previous poor form when runner-up from out of the handicap over C&D in May. Couldn't repeat that last time, but has since had wind surgery, so not entirely dismissed.

Forecasts

Jaunty Thor (6/4), Cold Shoulder (9/2), Green Zone (8/1), An Fear Ciuin (11/1), Celtic Flames (18/1), Tangolan (18/1), Gentleman James (18/1), Chasma (20/1), Hey Listen (20/1), Inniscastle Lad (22/1), Urban Kode (28/1), Ryalex (33/1), Cruachan (33/1), Michael James (50/1), Instingtive (66/1)

Verdict

An Fear Ciuin looks set to run well having been handed a workable opening mark, but the fact that Gordon Elliott runs two new recruits will shape the market here, and while Jaunty Thor looks the main hope on riding arrangements, there may be value in siding with the improving COLD SHOULDER, whose half-brother Tagliatelle did so well for the yard.
