Generally looks a very hard ride over fences and did so when winning over shorter here in June (responded well to pressure). Followed up under a good ride from the front at Worcester (seen to good effect); not won a handicap over fences.

5lb below his last winning chase mark he's since mixed this discipline with hurdling but has looked rather below-par so far this year. Never really involved in his last start (over C&D); finished 3rd in this last year off 10lb higher.

Useful sort over fences (2-16) who may be a little better than his figures suggest. Run well (without winning) since being highly-tried in the 4m at Cheltenham. Shaped well last time (first-time cheekpieces) against a well-handicapped winner.

Winner of this race last year he returns off the same mark with the blinkers going o for the first time. Quite highly tried after that win (ran in Scottish National) and his two runs since wind surgery one over hurdles here have left question marks.

Pepped-up by first-time cheekpieces when winning at Hexham (all his chase wins have come there) in June he reverted to type last time at Perth. Failed to cope with a 9lb rise for his Hexham win and still looks on a tough mark here.

Building up a good record at this unique course (121; fences); produced a career-best over C&D last time out off a 4lb lower mark. Had already run well over hurdles/fences here earlier in the year and looks capable off this mark of being competitive.

Made amends for a well-backed but poor display on his first run for this yard when winning over C&D back in this headgear combination (took advantage of lowly mark). Failed miserably to back that run up since adding to an unreliable record.

Verdict

Last year’s winner Fact Of The Matter has to be respected returning off the same mark but he ran poorly here over hurdles last time his second start back from a wind op with blinkers with blinkers now on for the first-time. Souriyan for all his good form over fences and that of his stable here has his quirks as does Kilfinichen Bay and neither are reliable sorts. SHAKE IT UP has always looked at home around here over fences and he’s the suggestion to take this and add another C&D win to his form figures. Lofgren is seen as a danger given his sound run last time at Bangor where he stuck on well having bumped into a well handicapped one from the Skelton yard.
