Just 1-10 so far but run two good races recently at Ascot and Newmarket, both over a mile, and should be having a say in this company.

Finished a close fourth in a valuable 1m handicap at Newcastle (AW) in June, not as good in one run there since. Now gone 14 runs without a win and best efforts tend to be on the AW (1-12 on turf).

Three-time C&D winner (only turf wins), including 17 days ago on good to soft ground. Respected, though can also be known for throwing the towel in when not fancying it.

Haydock winner in June over a mile on good to firm, fired blanks since at Ascot and Goodwood (1m2f) but they came in valuable handicaps. Down in trip and less demanding race, should be a major factor.

Denied a hat-trick at Newmarket (1m, good to firm) 22 days ago, though was closing all the way to the line in finishing second. Runs from the same mark now and consistent sort should be in the shake-up.

Verdict

A winner over this trip at Haydock in June, MAVERICK OFFICER has since shaped promisingly in two hot handicaps and ought to find this event less taxing. He's fancied to go well for his in-form rider, though very few of these can be ruled out.. Balgair was closing at the line when denied a hat-trick at Newmarket and is in here from the same mark, while Daira Prince was in excellent form prior to a Sandown flop and shouldn't be harshly judged now back from a short break. Breden goes up in grade after a win at Newbury while Petrus is running consistently well. Bint Dandy knows how to win here but is one to be wary of given so many rivals with claims.
