Gained his only win so far in a three-runner novice hurdle last summer and his form since has proved rather hit-and-miss and leaves him with something to prove here. Down into a 0-100 for the first time though and that gives him a chance.
Has in the past shown some fair form over hurdles but gradually lost his way and hasn't really looked like finding the path to redemption. Starts out for a new yard but hard to make a sound case on the evidence.
Ran his best race for quite some while when runner-up on his last start at Uttoxeter although that has pushed him back 3lb above his last winning mark. This isn't a strong contest though and it gives him a good winning opportunity.
Only hurdles win (1-8) came back in 2016 in a juvenile hurdle but he's gradually worked his way back to form of late. Not caught in the best position last time when 3rd at Market Rasen the jockey booking is a positive here.
Maiden over hurdles he has won on the Flat off a lowly mark but overall his form in this sphere is below-par. Should get a good ride considering the jockey booking but hard to envisage him being good enough to win this.
Successful on one occasion over hurdles in Ireland his form is just modest and he's made very little impact for this yard. Can only be watched with several others preferred in the pecking order.
So far he's shown little over hurdles but the fact that he's been retained by his shrewd yard and back from a break with a tongue-tie on suggests there might be better to come. Now down to a basement mark; note any market support.
Won on the Flat but only off a basement mark and his 0-9 record over hurdles is hardly one that excites with very little impact being made in this sphere. Jockey booking takes the eye but hard to imagine him being good enough to take a hand.
5lb out of the handicap and racing a stiff task here on the basis of what's gone before. Even in this weak event he's hard to make a case for and passed over here.
Forecasts
Yellow Kangaroo (5/4), Canford Thompson (15/8), Magical Thomas (6/1), Rasasee (11/1), Jeremy's Jet (12/1), Taken By Force (14/1), Kilcaragh Boy (50/1), Overrider (66/1), Buckeye Shan (66/1)
The booking of Gina Andrews for CANFORD THOMPSON immediately takes the eye here and it’s hoped that he’s in a better track position this time than he was when beaten at Market Rasen on his last start taking third behind one who won again next time. Looking at the market Magical Thomas would appear to be the main danger on the back of his most recent form although the dropped in grade Rasasee would not be out of this. Money for Yellow Kangaroo should also be noted despite his so far rather sub-standard hurdles displays.
- Canford Thompson
- Rasasee
- Magical Thomas
