Gained his first success when an authoritative 2½L winner of a 7½f Beverley nursery on Thursday; 6lb penalty offset by an inexperienced 7lb claimer.

£52,000 yearling; has left David Evans since finishing a weakening fourth of 11 to Almurr at Newbury (6f) in July; despite his pedigree, the step up in trip wouldn't appear to be an obvious move on stable/nursery debut.

Not achieved an awful lot so far (her best run came at Windsor in June), but she's eased in grade from her nursery debut at Glorious Goodwood (7f Class 2) and that's certainly in her favour.

Made a winning start in nursery company when a fast finishing ½L scorer at Catterick (6f) in July; outclassed off a 5lb higher mark at Newmarket since, and this looks to be a better option for her first attempt at 7f.

Showed up well (despite running green) when finishing third at Yarmouth (6f) in early July, but less competitive since including on nursery debut at Glorious Goodwood; more required.

Showed a similar level of ability on his first three starts (all over 6f), but raced keenly early on when favourite over an extended mile on nursery debut at Nottingham; failed to see out that trip and dropped back accordingly.

£7,000 yearling who has competed over the minimum trip on all three starts so far; beaten a nose by a winning debutante (beaten since) at Beverley in July (good to soft), but bred to stay further and could be in the mix on nursery debut.

Took a leap forward from her opening efforts when not beaten too far in a 6f Ripon novice (80/1) a fortnight ago; further sustained progress is required on nursery debut over a new trip; others likely stronger.

Well found in the market on nursery debut at Kempton (7f) last week despite his poor previous form; that new trip clearly was helpful - just failed to reel in Precision Prince, and turned out quickly (on turf) off the same mark.

Verdict

Nurseries are so often about the here and now, and the two horses with recent form in the context of this race are Five Helmets and SOPHOSC. The former carries a 6lb penalty for winning at Beverley last week, but that is negated by his riders 7lb claim. However, the Jo Tuite-trained youngster is preferred. Plenty was expected of him on nursery debut at Kempton last week (7/2jf) despite his moderate previous sprinting form, and he appeared to be very well suited by this 7f trip when just failing to reel in Precision Prince. Unless one of the other runners steps forward a notch or two, he should prove ultra-competitive back on turf off the same handicap mark.
  1. Sophosc
  2. Mr Diamond
  3. Five Helmets
