10/1
Quirky sort who is hard to trust (often let down by his attitude) but has now had some wind surgery. Folded up quickly on his two most recent starts (soon of the bridle) and back with questions to answer; never won a handicap.

Returned from a five-month break looking as though he could be competitive without looking as though he's a winner waiting to happen. Still 3lb above his last winning mark he's never won at this trip and may just need a further ease in the weights.

Opened his account over fences on his last start for Micky Hammond in a first-time visor (made all) with the handicapper pushing him up 11lb for that win. Finished an unimpressive last of four on his debut for this yard; doubts remain.

Chase The Wind812
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-10| J: Henry Brooke| T: Miss J E Foster| OR:  119| D
33/1
Free-going chaser who returns from a considerable absence off an 8lb lower mark than when last seen. Given the length of time he's been off likely to need this outing and can only be observed in this contest.

Ganbeip46
Age: 12|  Weight: 11-8| J: Harry Bannister| T: M & D Easterby| OR:  117| CD
16/1
C&D winner who goes well for this rider but wasn't in the best of form when last seen (made mistakes). Cheekpieces are now back on (has won over hurdles in them) but isn't the most solid proposition in the field; below last winning mark.

Red Giantv15
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-7| J: Sean Quinlan| T: J Candlish| OR:  116| D
3/1
The market and the presence of some first-time headgear (visor) signalled a much improved performance when winning at Market Rasen recently (took advantage of a good mark). Hiked up 10lb in the handicap he's never been the most consistent.

Al Co33
Age: 13|  Weight: 11-6| J: James Bowen| T: P & M Bowen| OR:  115| D
12/1
Smart chaser in his heyday it's doubtful if he was that well suited by his hurdles run last time although that would have helped in terms of fitness. Should be able to operate fully off this mark; he does have some consistency issues to deal with.

Compadret22
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-3| J: Aidan Coleman| T: J & A O'Neill| OR:  112| C
5/1
Scored for the first time since his bumper debut when taking a Huntingdon handicap chase (2m4f) last November (now 6lb below that mark). Failed to complete three of his five runs since then and looks an unsafe proposition given those outings.

Craigmorp29
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-2| J: R Johnson| T: O Murphy| OR:  111| D
9/4
Looked a more rounded individual since going handicapping running well over hurdles before making the a winning chasing debut (first-time cheekpieces). Well suited by the way that race was run (held up off good pace); now 5lb higher (more to come).

Irish Octavep76
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-0| J: Benjamin Poste| T: Mrs R Gasson| OR:  109| CD
6/1
Has a progressive profile having won five of his last eight starts, showing a very likeable attitude over C&D last time to win off a 6lb lower mark (hampered on final circuit). Now in search of another hat-trick off a short break; strong contender.

Forecasts

Craigmor (9/4), Red Giant (3/1), Compadre (5/1), Irish Octave (6/1), Net Work Rouge (10/1), Perfect Timing (12/1), Al Co (12/1), Ganbei (16/1), Free Range (28/1), Chase The Wind (33/1)

Verdict

Plenty of interest in this event and the market should prove to be a lively one with Red Giant bidding to repeat his Market Rasen romp but not as well handicapped now and facing a stronger field. Al Co can’t be left out of the equation off this mark (won Scottish National off 140) but he’s not as good as he was and this is likely to lie between two progressive types in Irish Octave and CRAIGMOR. The former is chasing another handicap hat-trick and did well to win here last time but the latter might be a further step ahead of the handicapper and with a more scope stepped up in trip for his second try over fences having won well at Stratford.
  1. Craigmor
  2. Irish Octave
  3. Al Co
