3/1
3,000gns foal; disappointing on sole juvenile start, but kicked off this season in fine style by winning at Salisbury (6f, firm) last month; penalty to carry.

66/1
€14,000 yearling who is a half-brother to four winners including Mango Music (5f-7f); late to action and trainer not a regular source of winners in such events, so best watched.

66/1
150/1 when a well beaten ninth of ten on debut at Redcar (7f, good to soft); highly unlikely that he'll be troubling the judge.

50/1
Failed to beat a single rival in either of his two starts, the latest coming at Ayr just eleven days ago (following wind surgery and a 12 month absence); tongue-tie applied.
Never involved on debut over 5f at Thirsk in mid-July (25/1), so needs the application of the hood and the extra yardage to have positive impact; half-brother to three winners ranging from 7f-2m.

3/1
$25,000 yearling, 110,000 gns juvenile; second foal, half-brother to US 6f dirt winner Belltown Beauty, and despite his obvious lack of experience should be competitive in this very winnable looking contest.
ÂŁ1,800 vendor yearling. Dam 5f winner (at two), closely related to 6f/7f Group 2 winner Adaay, half-sister to Listed-placed 5f juvenile winner Mullionmileanhour; needs to better her recent debut fifth of six (5f, good to soft, Thirsk).

9/1
Unraced sixth foal who cost 20,000 gns as a juvenile; half-sister to South African 1m1f winner Cascapedia and hails from a stable well capable of supplying debut winners; merits respect if the market vibes are positive.

Missy Mischief423
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-11| J: R Havlin| T: J Noseda
11/10
Resold as a yearling for $195,000; pitched in deep on her second juvenile start in the Queen Mary of 2017 (finished ninth of 23 to Heartache); off since for whatever reason, but this isn't a strong race in which to reappear.

Forecasts

Missy Mischief (11/10), Field Gun (3/1), Princely (3/1), Kynance (9/1), Her Lady Grace (16/1), Don't Be Surprised (50/1), Borders Dream (50/1), Bevsboy (66/1), Gleaming Arch (66/1)

Verdict

Not a particularly strong Novice Stakes by Doncaster standards, and surely a race in which the majority can be confidently dismissed. Princely is the form horse following his Salisbury win and he should find the ground to his liking under his penalty. Missy Mischief cost a tidy sum as a yearling ($195,000), but she's been off the track for well in excess of 400 days since her run in the 2017 Queen Mary (Royal Ascot), so a chance is taken on the debutante FIELD GUN, who mightn't necessarily need to be firing on all cylinders in order to make a winning debut for William Haggas and Liam Jones.
  1. Field Gun
  2. Princely
  3. Kynance
