Gained just reward for his consistency when winning at Chepstow (1m2f, good) on his penultimate start (raced a little freely; kept on well) off a 3lb lower mark. Failed to justify favouritism on his follow-up bid at Windsor (ridden to aggressively).

Five-time course winner who has a good record overall although he is performing just below his best since he last won in April. Has now slipped back to below his last winning mark and may appreciate this return to Tapeta.

Dual C&D winner but is well above his last winning mark (59) and his last win C&D win did come in claiming company (seen to maximum effect from front). Hasn't been able to lead in his last few starts and well below his best at present.

Kept busy at the start of the season he rewarded connections with two wins over this trip having run well in between. Has found his good run coming to halt of late though and needs a return to form back on the AW (course winner).

Six AW wins to his name but all of those have come on the Polytrack although he did finish 3rd over C&D last time when a 50/1 chance. Rather quirky sort though and often slow away and has been held back by his attitude on occasions in the past.

1-10 on the AW his only win came on the Polytrack (4th on his only start here) and would have needed the run at Goodwood last time coming back from a break. Looks well handicapped on his old form and not written off in this.

Course winner over shorter here in April and ran consistently enough afterwards and took an amateur riders handicap at Newbury on his penultimate start. Amateur ridden again last time but below-par; stamina to prove here.

Typically for one from this yard he's improved for the increased trip and the switch to handicaps making it 3-3 in this sphere recently. Had to work hard to beat another small field last time; now goes up in trip in an AW handicap for the first time.

Still looks unexposed having shown some steady improvement this year in five runs and runner-up to a progressive rival last time (made that one work hard). Now switched to the AW for the first-time kept on the same mark and should go well.

Forecasts

Matchmaking (5/6), Bid Adieu (5/1), Vampish (6/1), Dr Richard Kimble (10/1), Tangramm (14/1), Saumur (18/1), Song Of Love (28/1), Windsorlot (33/1), Dream Magic (40/1)

Verdict

It’s meant to be harder for Sir Mark Prescott to set up sequences in handicaps these days but he’s not doing too badly of late and his MATCHMAKING looks another improving sort who the handicapper is struggling to get hold of. A 6lb penalty gained for his latest Bath win looks unlikely to stop him as he goes up in trip by 2f something that looks as though it will suit. A couple of the older horses in Tangramm and Saumur look well handicapped on their old form but it’s another three-year-old in Vampish who would appear the main danger after her good run last time out but she may have run into another progressive sort here. Bid Adieu is another with a place chance.
