Strong traveller who was well supported on his return to action at Chelmsford (didn't get the run of the race) and not really suited by the track. Not really had that much racing and dropped 2lb (back to his last winning mark); player in this.

Made a good start to his career winning on his debut over 7f but perhaps hasn't quite progressed as expected. Had a breathing operation before he started his three-year-old/handicap career; back on the up last time under a positive ride.

AW winner without his usual headgear earlier in the year and has run with credit since (mainly on the AW). Not beaten far last time at Newcastle with cheekpieces back on and now tried in first-time blinkers; bit more needed here.

Showed promise on his only start as a juvenile over 7f and confirmed that potential when making a winning start this year over 1m. Below-par immediately after he resumed his progress back on turf making his handicap debut (blinkers now employed).

Looked the sort who had been brought along with handicaps in mind and so it proved as he's taken both his starts in this sphere (made all both times). Ground conditions were very different on both starts; off a career-high mark but not out of this.

Produced a greatly improved performance last time winning an Ascot handicap recording his first win away from Brighton. (back in cheekpieces for the first-time for ages). Given a 4lb rise for that win though and faces some improving types here.

Forecasts

Icart Point (15/8), Employer (3/1), The Last Emperor (7/2), Mr Minerals (5/1), Kreb's Cycle (14/1), Buzz Lightyere (16/1)

Verdict

Despite the small field this should be run at a decent pace with Icart Point and Kreb’s Cycle likely to go forward with the former of that duo looking to complete a hat-trick and having a good chance of doing so if he were to get free on the lead. The Last Emperor also appeared to enjoy being positively ridden last time and he could add to the pace in the race and all of that will help MR MINERALS back on a track that should suit better. He was a little unfortunate last time and this stiffer finish and likely strong pace produces an ideal scenario for him off a good mark. Employer is unexposed and flagged as the main danger especially as first-time blinkers could bring about more progress.
  1. Mr Minerals
  2. Employer
  3. Icart Point
