Has shown some good form around here over fences and hurdles but hasn't quite looked at his best this year. Now back over fences (poor effort over hurdles last time) although his yard aren't quite firing at the moment; usually held up.

9/2
Three-time chase winner last year often responding well to pressure after looking a lost cause (not an easy ride) over shorter trips. Has run in similarly lazy fashion this year without success (looks laboured); visor now back on, hard to trust.

A return to his last winning mark saw him bouncing back to his best at Warwick (travelled well); he's probably run better than his form figures suggest in his subsequent two starts. This trip will test him though and he needs his jumping to hold up.

Twice a runner-up in this race he is a four-time course winner but this trip does tend to stretch him (4202 over C&D). Easy to back and not disgraced last time here in first-time cheekpieces (now removed); won off higher marks in the past.

Starting to look as though he may be on the way back and is certainly becoming well handicapped (last win off 6lb higher); strong in the betting at Perth last time. Needs to settle a little better but went well for today's rider last time.

Shake It Up22
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-6| J: Alain Cawley| T: Micky Hammond| OR:  112| CD
11/4
C&D winner who has very much got back on track for this yard of late over hurdles and fences here. Cheekpieces worn last time are now removed for his return to fences with a fully-fledged rider replacing the stable amateur; interesting.

Forecasts

Jovial Joey (5/2), Shake It Up (11/4), Easy Street (9/2), Earthmoves (9/2), Alderbrook Lad (15/2), Morning Royalty (10/1)

Verdict

Alderbrook Lad knows his way around here but despite twice finishing second in this race he’s never won at this distance and looks better over slightly shorter, his stable may have a better chance with Shake It Up. He ran well over hurdles here last time (off a lower mark) and with Alain Cawley taking the ride and back over fences he has to be respected. JOVIAL JOEY is starting to find his way back to his best now with Paddy Brennan again taking the ride he looks worth chancing off what looks to be a very decent mark. Easy Street moves well through his races but there is a question mark about him at this trip/jumping while Earthmoves comes from an in-form stable but is very hard to trust.
  1. Jovial Joey
  2. Shake It Up
  3. Easy Street
