Promising sort in 2017 (5f-6f winner), but slow to come to hand this season; better effort in the first-time hood (retained) over 6f here last month, and that race has yielded winners; respected.

Beaten just 2L off this mark on his penultimate start at Chester in June (5f, good), but well below that form after a tardy start at Beverley latest; ideally suited by good ground (or softer).

Made all to score by 5L on his second juvenile start in July 2017 (5f Carlisle, good to soft), but gradually trained off towards the back-end of the season; more encouragement back from wind surgery at Windsor (5f, good) last month.

Improving with racing, and off the mark in a big field handicap (Class 5) at Newcastle in June (5f, standard); up 4lb; will appreciate a fast early pace with Jabbarockie likely to give him something to aim towards.

Batten The Hatches (5/4), Jabbarockie (5/4), Fool For You (5/2), Rumshak (7/2), Primo's Comet (13/2)

Verdict

A compact field, but probably not as straightforward as the betting might suggest for Friday's penalised Haydock winner Jabbarockie. Eric Alston's charge is bang in-form, and looks certain to figure prominently throughout, but a couple of the others also catch the eye. Batten The Hatches showed improvement for the fitting of the hood latest, and despite a drop back in trip is a fairly useful sprinter on his day, whilst the unexposed Newcastle AW winner PRIMO'S COMET could be strongest at the finish if able to tuck in neatly behind the pace angle and form horse Jabbarockie.
  1. Primo's Comet
  2. Jabbarockie
  3. Batten The Hatches
