Just 1lb higher than when gaining her last win on the AW she shaped well enough last time out despite running freely. Back in a more suitable grade here the shorter trip isn't sure to benefit her.

Has remained in form since winning on the AW at the start of the year over this same trip/mark. Well beaten over hurdles last time out he returns to the Flat on turf with a little bit to prove.

Has run well on enough occasions to be thought to be able to win off this mark but disappointed last time out. Usually goes from the front but has an awkward draw here to adopt those tactics.

Well backed on his first run back from wind surgery he proved an expensive disappointment up at Ayr over 7f. Given his background it's not hard to imagine him being better than he's shown so far and not written off in this.

Has been capable of some fair form in the past but the losing run continues to mount despite a falling mark. Now off a career-low mark he's getting to the point where he's dangerously well handicapped and dealt a decent draw here.

From a stable that have thrived of late with their runners under both codes with his one now running under a penalty for a recent win. Has professional help in the saddle a decent draw and must be a leading contender here.

Course winner who isn't that well drawn here and can be a less than straightforward sort. Looks below form of late but has slipped back to below his last winning mark and has one of the better amateurs taking the ride.

C&D winner who showed up well on his return from a break but has failed to build on that since in two starts. Stays a little further than this trip and the headgear worn for her last win now reappears and that may spark a revival.

Trainer has been doing well with newcomers to the stable and this one ran a creditable first race in his care before failing to build on that run next time. Hard to totally write off though and no surprise to see him bounce back; well drawn.

Cheekpieces go on for the first time as she makes her handicap debut having been lightly-raced for one of her age. Not knocked about in a Redcar maiden last time and will have more chance in this sphere; bred to be suited by 1m4f.

Forecasts

Island Song (1/1), Different Journey (11/2), Optima Petamus (11/2), Correggio (10/1), Clarabel (10/1), Polar Forest (12/1), Graceful Act (16/1), Lazarus (20/1), Outlaw Torn (25/1), Prosecute (25/1), French Mix (33/1), Haafaprincess (33/1)

Verdict

Trainer Tristan Davidson has an impressive record with horses running for him for the first time of late and ISLAND SONG was one of those recent winners and it may well be a 6lb penalty isn’t enough to stop her following up in this. Anything that Serena Brotherton rides in this sort of affair is worthy of note and she’s won this race on four previous occasions so perhaps she can cajole a better performance out of Different Journey this time around. Optima Petamus is another one to note given the form of his yard and Graceful Act with the cheekpieces back on can’t be ignored.
