Fair form over hurdles having shown promise in his only bumper building on a good debut over obstacles (C&D) to win over C&D. Most of the fancied runners failed to fire though so the form might not be as good as it looks; capable of better.
A break plus a wind op appeared to do the trick as this fair bumper winner got off the hurdles mark at the 7th attempt; beat a fairly weak field. Faces a tougher test here although he did win with a little to spare last time and deserves his chance.
Fairly useful on the Flat (rated 76 on last Flat start) he made a successful debut over hurdles at Ffos Las over this trip. Showed potential but with all the home straight hurdles omitted (low sun) his jumping will come under more pressure here.
Poor in bumpers he's hardly enhanced the view that he's of limited ability in three hurdles starts with his latest effort despite finishing third looking very laboured. Now qualified for handicaps he'll be seen to better effect in that sphere.
Modest maiden on the Flat (originally with Sir Mark Prescott) he was disgraced on his Hexham hurdling debut but finished some 25L off the winner. Significant improvement to take a hand in this and will be better off when he has a handicap mark.
Showed more on her last start over C&D behind Court Dreaming but ultimately has a lot to do to turn that form round and a big surprise if she did so.
Bred to need time and distance and that was obvious the way she ran in her sole bumper. Switched to hurdles after an 18 month absence she's shown even less over hurdles; impossible to recommend.
Makes her hurdles debut after three bumper runs all at this track (debut came in August 2015). The increased trip should suit but given what she has shown so far others make far more appeal and best watched.
Forecasts
Montanna (6/5), Judge Earle (6/4), Court Dreaming (9/2), Farocco (14/1), Single Estate (40/1), Solway Berry (40/1), Country Delights (100/1), Cushy Butterfield (100/1)
Hard to say that there is much strength in depth in this opener and it would be a surprise if anything outside of the top three was good enough to land this although all three have to carry a penalty. MONTANNA will need to do more jumping than he did on his debut and it’s hoped that he’s brushed up on that as his jumping efforts at Ffos Las on debut were pretty slipshod. He would have been the best of these on the Flat though and Peter Bowen has an excellent 38% strike-rate at the track. The full brothers Court Dreaming and Judge Earle are both recent winners here and enter the mix but the former won a race where a few disappointed and the latter has taken a while to score over hurdles.
