Has made a good start to her career, winning a novice contest at Thirsk (6f) and following up under a penalty against fillies at Bath (5½f, firm) last time. Now giving away lumps of weight, but opposition not strong and could complete hat-trick.

Showed promise in three novice auction races. Initial mark looks stiff enough based on that, but top trainer now switches her to this sphere and improvement may follow. Can probably go well.

Has shown bit of promise in novices' company from 5f-7f, her best effort being her most recent at Wetherby, when she couldn't see it out after leading. Drop in trip should help. Initial mark a little stiff, but not ruled out.

Put in a couple of reasonable efforts over 5f to begin with, but was below par when stepped up to this trip last time. Initial handicap mark looks more attractive that some, with 7lb also claimed. Short-listed.

Comfortably held in all three starts so far. Initial handicap mark looks stiff based on what we have seen, and others make more appeal this time.

Steadily improving filly whose best run was last time out at Hamilton (5f, good to firm), when 2L second. A similar step up on that would make her interesting from a workable opening mark.

Forecasts

Prairie Spy (4/7), Essenza (9/2), Lady Katy (6/1), Bandola (16/1), Islay Mist (25/1), Don't Tell Dandy (25/1)

Verdict

A tough race to call. Prairie Spy is clearly the class filly of the contest, but she does have to concede an awful lot of weight to her rivals for a juvenile and that might catch up with her. The suggestion then is to take her on with LADY KATY, who looks quite well treated on her nursery debut and with 7lb claimed, she could take advantage. Essenza, Islay Mist and Don't Tell Dandy are three others who can't be ruled out and the market can be a good guide.
  1. Lady Katy
  2. Prairie Spy
  3. Essenza
