Last win came over C&D off a 6lb higher mark but he's really not shown anything like that form this year at all and appears to be struggling currently. Last two runs have been in slightly better company but failed to beat one opponent in those races.
Seen to best effect when winning back-to-back AW races at the start of the year at up to 1m2f off a slightly higher mark. Encouraging signs in his last two runs (better than they look) although the very slow starts on both occasions are worrying.
Last win came back in 2016 (dropped 6lb below that mark) and he spent most of last year attempting to find his form with the odd glimmer that he had. Would have needed the run last time after a break and this outing may well tell us more.
Resumed winning ways over C&D in April but his form since has mirrored that of the yard and proved rather patchy. Down in grade to a claimer last time he failed to dominate and finished a below-par 4th (of six); looks to have work to do.
Hard to fault his form or attitude in races around here only failing once over C&D (off this mark incidentally) but comes here on a hat-trick after winning his last two over C&D. Likes to go from the front and may face a pace battle this time around.
Finished in front of Shamrokh last time after also being very slow away but showing more than he had of late (first-time cheekpieces); paid the price for a rapid move into contention. Last win a while ago but now potentially thrown in off this mark.
Dual winner over this trip last year and has dropped down below her last winning mark. Showed her best form this year at Pontefract (better than bare result) but ran poorly last time failing to progress; type to bounce back and not written off.
Forecasts
Bit Of A Quirke (7/4), Shamrokh (3/1), Purple Rock (5/1), Freud (6/1), Rita's Man (8/1), Inflexiball (12/1), Save The Bees (16/1)
There are a few that like to go from the front here chief amongst them Bit Of A Quirke who has only been beaten once over C&D in five attempts and showed his best in terms of form and attitude when winning here last time. He might not have an easy time upfront though and with that though in mind FREUD is preferred after his eye-catching display last time and it’s hoped that he’d better away this time and gets more measured run into contention. The same could be said of Shamrokh who has also been slowly way but his last two runs are probably better than they look. Inflexiball needs to bounce back from a poor run but that’s not out of the question.
- Freud
- Bit Of A Quirke
- Inflexiball
