Rather lost his way but confirmed his return to form last time (beaten by a progressive type) and he'll be of interest of this sort of mark having won handicaps off 89 and 82. That run came on soft but does have form on quicker ground.

Losing run is starting to get rather long but his recent starts have given hope of a revival and his form figures are better than they look. Blinkers worn last time are now swapped for a visor and he's one to keep an eye on off this mark.

A little below his best at present this course winner needs to show more to be of interest in this although a return here may spark a revival. This looks slightly easier than the contests he's been trying; one or two others preferred though.

Would have found 1m2f too much of a test last time out even at Chester (hooded first-time) and better judged on his earlier form. Has looked rather unfortunate on a couple of occasions this year but all wins have come over 7f.

His run over 6f last time can be forgotten (not a sprinter) with all his wins having come over 7f in a four-timer last year. Has slipped back below the last of those winning marks now and now tried over a mile (one previous unsuccessful attempt).

Appeared suited by the drop to 7f when taking his first race as a three-year-old on the AW (Tapeta); made all and responded well to pressure. Ran with credit back on turf last time (7f); now tries 1m again off a slightly lower mark.

Hard to dispute that he's well treated off this mark but it's a long time since he was good enough to win off a rating of 80. Gives the impression that there is always more in the locker but doesn't want to use it on most occasions; quirky sort.

Took the runner-up slot to one who is improving quickly last time over 7f at Redcar and steps up to 1m here. Often travels well in his races but isn't one to trust implicitly having flattered on a few occasions; would appreciate a strongly run heat.

Forecasts

Paparazzi (11/4), Sultan Baybars (4/1), Strong Steps (9/2), Windsor Cross (8/1), Queen's Sargent (8/1), Tadaawol (9/1), Pursuing Steed (9/1), Fingal's Cave (9/1), Zoravan (11/1), Showboating (14/1)

Verdict

A handicap that takes a little bit of unravelling with several having a chance including the well handicapped Paparazzi who would be a danger if putting it all in; being delivered late off a strong pace would be his ideal scenario. Showboating won this last year but needs to show more than of late while Fingal’s Cave would have a chance if staying this trip. Zoravan is another well handicapped contender but he has his quirks and this looks best left to Sultan Baybars and STRONG STEPS. The former looks on the verge of winning but the latter is just preferred on the back of his Hamilton run last time.
