Better than this at his peak but currently racing below his best and not well enough to take advantage of a drop in class.

Took his record to 2-29 at Cartmel where the unique run in played to his strengths. Hard to be certain he can follow up off a career high mark given his overall profile.

Suited to a sound surface and she will be all the better for last month's return to action. Has won for this rider over this trip at Newton Abbot.

Consistent mare suited to sound conditions on a galloping track. Possibly a shade high in the weights but she is one of the few in this likely to give her running.

Towcester and Southwell specialist arrives needing to improve on a record of 11 heavy defeats in as many starts away from those venues since 2015.

Has winning form at this trip on a sound surface. Good effort on comeback over much shorter and a danger to all this time.

Was very well backed to score at Towcester two starts back but found course specialist Riddlestown a length too good. On and off the bridle at Fakenham on Monday and last fence blunder may have cost him second. Others preferred.

Without a win since 2014 and has plenty to find with Captain Mowbray on Cartmel running. New headgear fitted.

Reported better going right-handed and suited to a sharp track. Hardly has the ideal conditions but a sound jumper who stays well. Needs to recover from a shocker last time and possibly has too many doubts to cast aside.

Winner over fences at Warwick (2m4f, soft) in December 2016, failed to complete in three of six starts since. Better effort last month at Wincanton (3m1f, good to soft) and may figure here with cheekpieces back on.

Just a maiden hurdle to his name so far, and hasn't shown the form to date in his career to match up to the best of these, even if he does improve for his chase debut.

Winner on good ground last August and the second/third have won since. Still has work to do from this mark and after an absence.

Forecasts

Maid Of Milan (5/1), Copperfacejack (6/1), Twojayslad (6/1), Fort Gabriel (7/1), Mercers Court (7/1), Packettotherafters (7/1), Aunty Ann (8/1), Grandads Horse (9/1), Charlie Mon (10/1), Captain Mowbray (14/1), Riddlestown (16/1), Call Me Vic (20/1), Definately Vinnie (28/1)

Verdict

Maid Of Milan and Copperfacejack should ensure a decent gallop. The former will be better for her recent return but the pair may set this up for their rivals. Charlie Mon went well over C&D in a similarly run race, but preference is for FORT GABRIEL who made his comeback over an inadequate trip and who has winning distance form.
  1. Fort Gabriel
  2. Maid Of Milan
  3. Charlie Mon
