Turned in a career best on his second start for his new yard showing his placed effort at Chester on his initial run for them to be strong form. Drew clear quickly at Goodwood (won with plenty in hand) and looks to have more to come.
Usually sets the pace in his races and has done so on his two starts this year but has faded quickly on each occasion. He may well be easing in the weights but his last two runs have left him with plenty to prove.
Did well to win on the second run of her career (first this season) having raced lazily after being slowly away at Lingfield (AW) but finding plenty for pressure. Looked as though further would suit but below-par on handicap debut (lazy again).
Hard to fault the runoff form that he's been in since last September (1111211) and rising some 30lb in the handicap. Forged clear for his last win (raised 7lb) and given the style of that win it's hard to suggest his winning spree is over yet.
Got back to winning ways after 10 months off when taking a 1m4f AW handicap at Wolverhampton (given a good ride). Failed to really build on that victory under a penalty and it may well be the handicapper has him off this mark now.
Gradually working his way back to form in races that have not really shown him to best effect (needs a strong pace to come off). Stymied again by a slow gallop over 1m2f here last time; his mark is fine but meets some progressive sorts.
Consistent this year and turned in his best performance since joining this yard over 1m3f on the AW and winning narrowly (given a 2lb rise). Ran just as well in defeat next time still on the AW and now returns to turf with a little more to do.
Forecasts
Panko (10/11), Gravity Wave (4/1), Esspeegee (5/1), Albizzia (10/1), Paddy A (10/1), Camakasi (20/1), Croquembouche (25/1)
Panko looked to be back to his best last time when winning easily at Goodwood and a 6lb penalty may well not be enough to slow him down now but he does bump into one who may be improving at a quicker rate than the handicapper can keep up with in ESSPEEGEE. He’s managed to transfer his already progressive AW form onto the turf and may well be able to make it seven wins from his last eight starts here. Camakasi is a solid yardstick to measure the form by and he looks to be working his way back to form but does need a strong gallop to be seen at his best while Paddy A will be thereabouts if he transfers his recent AW form back to turf.
- Esspeegee
- Panko
