Finished a good second at Warwick (3m2f, good) in first time cheekpieces last September. Likely to have improved for his return to action at Wincanton (2m4f, good) last month and this step back up in trip is in his favour also.

Good effort in finishing third over an extended 2m5f on good ground here earlier this month. Races off his higher hurdles mark here and is stepping up in trip for this.

Followed up a Stratford (good-to-soft) handicap hurdle win with two good efforts at Warwick. Handicap mark is 4lb higher than for that Stratford victory and he is likely to run well once more.

Returning from a break when winning over an extended 3m2f at Stratford (good) last time out. Has to defy a 4lb rise in the weights if he's to take this contest.

Bumper winner and slowly getting the hang of it over hurdles having finished runner-up on both starts in handicap company. Latest effort came over 2m4f and he is one to note stepping up in trip.

Placed in a novice hurdle at Ffos Las (2m, heavy) for David Pipe last December but disappointed twice since. Worth a check in the market with better ground forecast and a tongue tie added for the first time on debut for a shrewd yard.

Handicap hurdle winner over 3m1f at Huntingdon (good) last autumn. Struggled since however and remains on a mark 2lb higher than for that latest success.

Placced over fences in a handicap over an extended 2m4f at Kempton (soft) in April and put a disappointing effort behind him when fourth back over hurdles at Warwick (3m2f, good-to-soft) last time. Interesting if repeating that effort.

Held in three runs this year including when finishing sixth over 2m3f here last time out on his return from a break. Stamina to prove upped in trip.

Good second over 2m4f at Fakenham (good) on her penultimate start but struggled over 3m2f at Warwick (good-to-soft) subsequently. More needed in this contest.

Disappointing of late including when beaten 33L over an extended 3m2f at Stratford (good) last time. Races off a mark 4lb lower than for his most recent success and market support would be interesting here.

First time blinkers appeared to work when winning over an extended 2m5f on good ground here last time. Races off a 6lb higher mark here and interesting to see if the blinkers have the same effect this time.

Forecasts

I'm Always Trying (3/1), The Black Squirrel (10/3), Waikiki Waves (7/1), Boss Mans Ladder (8/1), Generous Chief (8/1), Lord Topper (10/1), Brown Bear (12/1), Under The Phone (14/1), Justification (22/1), Tea Time Fred (25/1), Dreamsoftheatre (25/1), Amron Kali (33/1)

Verdict

LORD TOPPER ran well for a long way prior to finishing sixth over an inadequate trip at Wincanton on his seasonal debut last time out and with that run under his belt he can register a second victory over hurdles in this competitive handicap hurdle. Generous Chief was a winner at Stratford last time out and looks capable of claiming second while fellow last time out winner Waikiki Waves, who receives weight from all of his rivals can claim third.
  1. Lord Topper
  2. Generous Chief
  3. Waikiki Waves
