Still only has one win to his name (5f Chester maiden) and of his three runs this year his best came at that same track when nearly making all the running in a handicap. Seen to good effect there and below-par last time (wore visor); cheekpieces now.

Certainly stepped forward on anything he had shown before when running to a useful level last time to finish runner-up in a 1m1f Goodwood handicap. Upped 4lb for that effort but entitled to come on for that run; strong pace would suit ideally.

Won over 6f as a juvenile but gradually had his limitations exposed and his mark in two handicaps this year has proved beyond him. Dropped a further 1lb here he probably needs some more help with his lack of scope holding him back here.

Improved to get off the mark over 7f on his final juvenile run on the AW and has continued to progress in two handicaps travelling well on both occasions. Hooded (first time) on latest start when quite excitable (needs to settle); has potential.

Showed promise last year (had three quick runs) and has looked more the finished article this year winning a minor event and a handicap over 1m. On both occasions he's looked to have more to come despite looking a little wayward in the finish.

A return to turf on his second run of the year proved the catalyst for some improved form and he ran even better on his last start over C&D. Stayed on to lead close home after having to wait for a gap and raised just 1lb for that sound effort.

Verdict

Plenty of potential in this and some good form has already been shown by the majority of this field with two of the runners coming here seeking a hat-trick. Those two are Maypole and Mont Kinabalu and both should go well but it’s the maiden LEGAL HISTORY who makes the most appeal having just lost out in a Goodwood handicap last time and he may well get the strong pace he needs here. Escalator makes his handicap debut and he’s one to watch in the market although he may just need the experience at this level and Maverick Officer (if he settles better) would be preferred.
