Only won once in 16 starts on the Flat. That success was on firm ground at Bath over 1m5f. Returned in no sort of form at all last season and still well above his last winning mark. Well beaten at Chester on return and hard to fancy.
Won a maiden at Kempton in October and gained his first turf success at Salisbury last time out. Interesting he was well-backed that day and 4lb rise looks fair. Likely to go well again.
Landed a four-timer at Lingfield in October and has run well in defeat on two subsequent outings including over C&D last time. Seemingly still more to come and he has a C&D win to his name so can't be ruled out nudged up just 1lb.
Recorded an AW hat-trick this winter but not quite in the same form on his last couple of starts including at Haydock last time out. There's a suspicion the handicapper has caught up with him but first-time cheekpieces may eke out some improvement.
Has been in good form this year, kicking off the campaign with a success at Chelmsford before making all to win at Lingfield. Got in to a bit of a pace war at Haydock last time but he's not one to gift an easy lead to and not ruled out.
C&D winner but that's his only success on turf in 24 starts and he's more effective on AW. It's been some time since he's had fast ground on turf so may be able to return to form and end a long losing run here.
Front runner who won back-to-back races in the dying embers of the 2016 Flat turf season (1m4f-1m6f), but has raced sparingly since a couple of attempts over hurdles that winter; handicap mark falling and that's helpful seeking a revival.
Gained a first win since 2015 at Chepstow last time out with the Champion Jockey on board for the first time. 4lb higher here and no guarantee he can back that up.
Won his first win since 2015 at Salisbury in April and backed that up with a win here last month over 1m6f. Step up to this trip no issue but all his best form is with soft in the going.
Forecasts
Stanley (5/2), Imphal (11/4), Mancini (3/1), Faithful Mount (11/1), Inn The Bull (12/1), Chivers (14/1), Gavlar (16/1), Guard Of Honour (25/1), River Dart (33/1)
STANLEY is very consistent and has solid claims of back-to-back wins having won going away at Salisbury last time. Imphal runs well over this course and distance and should do so again and similar could be said for Gavlar who looks set to get conditions in his favour if the rain stays away.
- Stanley
- Imphal
- Gavlar
