Just the one bumper run so far at Ayr (2m, good) when shaping as though the experience would do him good. Took a strong hold and got outpaced just plugged on at the end; more to come at a modest level.

14/1
Showed limited promise in his first two bumpers which were separated by 17 months (first when with Paul Webber). Looked as though he would be better for the run (2nd time) behind Paper Promise (winner won again); had some wind surgery recently.
3

5/4
Placed on both his starts in Irish point-to-points he was well found in the market on his debut and moved well through the race. Further is going to be needed to see him at his best but finishing second on debut was a fine effort (Kelso, 2m, good).
4
Horse silk
8/1
Modest form in two bumper attempts with a hood used on the second occasion (retained here). Ran better the second time improving from his debut and ought to know more here without necessarily improving enough to win this.
Gelding by Aqlaam out of a dam (Blazing Field) who won on the Flat (at up to 1m5f) and stayed 2m. Yard are 0/45 with their bumper runners in the past five years.

9/2
Second runner for this yard in this and showed ability on his debut at Hexham (2m, good/soft) when finishing 4th. Has a rather mixed pedigree but is a half-brother to four winners on the Flat; could build on his debut (rider 0/10 for yard).

Horse silk
11/4
Placed on her only start that she completed in point-to-points she did best of the newcomers in a Hexham bumper (2m, good). Travelled up well through the race and only found one to good who had been consistent in bumpers; sure to improve.
Yard know this family well but she shaped as if she needed the experience in a C&D bumper last year. Not seen since she will need to improve from that effort to take a hand here; yard are 0/31 in bumpers (last five years).

40/1
Tongue-tied for her debut she showed that there was something to work on when finishing 5th on her debut at Ayr (one place in front of Accordini). Outpaced in that race she looks as though she will improve; yard 0/17 in bumpers last five years.

Forecasts

Enzo Barbieri (5/4), Gonn Away (11/4), Night Manager (9/2), Ask Paddington (8/1), Detonate (14/1), Accordini (25/1), Fields Of Fire (28/1), Jessiemac (40/1), Solway Lizzie (66/1)

Verdict

Not the usual collection of trainers in this bumper but two of the field have set a decent standard finishing runner-up on their only start so far having been placed in the point-to-point sphere. The gelding ENZO BARBIERI just shades the argument on his Kelso debut over the mare Gonn Away who showed up well on her first run at Hexham. Of the others in the field the Micky Hammond pair Ask Paddington and Night Manager are two that could improve a little and the market may be useful in splitting those. The James Ewart yard have stepped up in bumpers of late and there may be more to come from Detonate now that he’s had some wind surgery.
  1. Enzo Barbieri
  2. Gonn Away
  3. Ask Paddington
