Useful hurdler who looks to have taken well to chasing judged on his debut effort at Sedgefield (2m, good). Travelled and jumped well throughout winning easily in the end from one (Ballyvic Boru) who has since scored in this sphere.

Useful in handicaps over hurdles (twice a C&D winner) he ran a nice race at Aintree (2m4f, good) last time out. Now goes chasing for the first time receiving weight off his main rival but giving away experience.

Has two point-to-point wins to his name (both conditions events) when with Elizabeth Harris; latest at the start of May over 2m4f (fell and pulled-up in between). Has refused to race in the past; tough start on Rules debut.

Pulled-up in both his point-to-points he was beaten 163L (finished last) in his only start under Rules, a Kelso novice hurdle (2m, heavy) in February when 100/1. Not much encouragement can be taken from any of those outings.

Verdict

This very much looks as though it boils down to a head-to-head. CURIOUS CARLOS has already scored over fences and that form has been subsequently franked and given his hurdles rating he should be able to concede the penalty to Caius Marcius who is making his chasing debut. His form over timber wouldn’t have been quite as good as his main rival but he would be the one most likely to take advantage of any mishaps to the likely market leader. Cool Valley has won a couple in point-to-points and he looks the most likely to take the minor placing.
