Form figures around here read 331 (C&D winner), that win ending a long losing run although it looked to come in a weak race (made all, jumped well). Found his increased mark too tough to cope with since although needed run last time (easy to back).

Made hay when joining this yard with three chase wins (two over 3m) but went off the boil rather quickly after his last win. Given a break to rekindle the spirits but pulled-up last time (stopped quickly); doubts remain.

His last credible form came when he was with Paul Nicholls taking a handicap off a mark of 125 but he's offered little since then. Given a tough task on stable debut (Scottish National); struggling well pulled-up, this will tell us more.

Yet to have been given a spin in handicaps over fences and should find this easier than her three starts in this sphere so far. Failed to live up to her useful hurdles form over fences so far but off this mark looks to have been found a good opening.

Needs no introduction around here having always shown his best at this unique track (three-time C&D winner). His last win here came off 7lb higher and he did hint a revival last time out and his yard remain in good form; respected.

Forecasts

Miss Crick (5/4), Alderbrook Lad (3/1), Brave Spartacus (9/2), The Clock Leary (13/2), Boa Island (7/1)

Verdict

At least two of these arrive here with something to prove but both Brave Spartacus and Alderbrook Lad are hard to write off on a course where they have shown some of their best form and the duo are both C&D winners. They both will have come on for their recent runs although with similar preferred run styles (prominent/front-running) they may set this up for the chasing handicap debutante MISS CRICK. She’s not been able to match her hurdles form so far over fences but this going handicapping will surely see her in a better light. Both The Clock Leary and Boa Island have plenty to prove.
  1. Miss Crick
  2. Alderbrook Lad
  3. Brave Spartacus
