Getting on in year's now and has been capable of some decent form in the past off higher marks than this. Hardly looked out of place in a better event than this at Haydock last time; remains to be seen how he handles Cartmel.
His back-to-back hurdles win in early 2017 came in slightly lower grade on soft ground and he would have needed the run after a 13 month break last time. Stable are going well though and the cheekpieces (worn for last two wins) are back on.
Went from the front last time and appeared happier for that run style (not that pressured) and showed more resolution that before to hold on and win. Not the most consistent though and can race lazily; only given a 4lb rise.
Triumphed in this race last year off a 6lb lower mark and generally runs well at this meeting. Mixes this sphere with chasing and there was an element of tune-up for this in his Perth chase run last time; not knocked around when chance had gone.
Won twice over hurdles when with Harry Fry; dropped in grade and with headgear on (first-time) when taking a Leicester seller. That was his last run for Fry but his two runs for this yard leave questions to answer especially with trip/handicap mark.
Has flattered to only to deceive on a few occasions now nit didn't even flatter last time when running a particularly poor race at Hexham. Cheekpieces (worn before) are now fitted again but that was a laboured effort last time; hard to trust.
Has a course win to his name which came at this meeting two years ago but he's changed stables since and his three runs for this yard have a very modest feel. 3lb out of the handicap here and would need others to falter to win this.
47lbs out of the weights and given his attitude issues it's impossible to see him getting involved in this.
Forecasts
Souriyan (5/2), Forthefunofit (7/2), Morning Royalty (9/2), The Tourard Man (5/1), Allbarnone (7/1), Arthurs Secret (9/1), Old Harry Rocks (14/1), Port Lairge (150/1)
If he gets a relatively soft lead again Souriyan would be a danger to all here but he’s never been the most consistent and there’s a nagging doubt that he won’t be able to repeat his Market Rasen form even though he’s only raised 4lb. The Tourad Man has slipped to a handy mark and he can’t be ignored even though he has to give weight to the entire field. The cheekpieces going back on Forthefunofit signal that a big run could be in the offing after he needed the run last time with the yard back amongst the winners. MORNING ROYALTY loves it round here though and despite the 6lb higher mark can take this race again with his Perth run tuning him up nicely for this.
- Morning Royalty
- Forthefunofit
- The Tourard Man
