First start for a new yard off the back of a break he'll find this ground more to his liking (run on heavy the last twice). A repeat of his handicap run back in November would see him go close with this trip holding no fears.

Previously useful on the Flat his two recent spins in that sphere have been poor and he remains with just one decent effort over hurdles to his name. Taken a while for the penny to drop over hurdles and on balance others appeal more.

His form on the Flat has been regressive and he's only completed in one of his two hurdles starts. Jumped poorly on that occasion and hard to be enthusiastic about his chance here.

His hurdles form so far has been fair and no more although he did get back to somewhere near his best last time at Sedgefield despite being beaten 5L. His saving grace there was the fact that he jumped better and will need to do so again.

Unsuited by the drop to 2m on his first run for this yard having previously run well in a fairly strong race for Paul Nicholls at Chepstow (2m3f). Featured well enough on that occasion though but failed to repeat that run last time; not written off.

Very much helped by going back up in trip when taking a Hexham novice last time over 2m7f gaining a reward for some consistent efforts previously. That was her first win but she should be able to build on that and is a player in this.

Makes her hurdles debut for a yard that are going well of late having run in a couple of bumpers. Started favourite on her debut (needed the experience) but failed to show anything more last time out; up in trip now over hurdles.

Forecasts

Alfie's Choice (7/4), Katy Royal (2/1), Western Honour (4/1), Stay In Touch (5/1), Big Thunder (14/1), Sammamish (66/1), Clayton Hall (200/1)

Verdict

Having taken a while to get off the mark KATY ROYAL is taken to follow-up her Hexham win in a race where three or four can be given a chance. Alfie’s Choice will appreciate the better ground here and a move to a new yard may rekindle his spirit while Stay In Touch is in the mix if he jumps as well as he did last time. Western Honour looks as though this trip will suit him and he’s not ruled out for a local yard that always do well with their runners here.
  1. Katy Royal
  2. Alfie's Choice
  3. Western Honour
