Decent ground is the key to this winner of 4-11 races who won at Ludlow in November off a 3lb lower mark. Disappointed in Grade 3 at Kempton and most recently when pulling up at Sandown, but this is an easier task.

Returned to trainer after four starts in point to points last month . Won last July over hurdles and fences at Perth. 2lb higher now and shouldn't be too far away.

On a hat-trick after soft ground wins at Hereford and Chepstow. Runs off 2lb higher mark now but bigger question is his effectiveness on this sounder surface.

Runner-up in mares listed chase at Doncaster in January but was sturggling and behind when pulled up in another listed event at Perth three weeks ago over 3m. Drops back in distance and that may help the cause.

1lb higher than his win at Huntingdon in November then pulled up here on Boxing Day. Second at Kempton last month after a break, beaten a long way. Not without a chance but more needed.

Scooted in over this trip at Stratford last month but handicapper has had his say raising him 11lb for that success. May still be ahead of the game though and could be the one to beat.

Forecasts

Zamparelli (7/4), Lord Bryan (5/2), Monbeg Charmer (4/1), Compadre (11/2), Song Saa (8/1), Tangolan (20/1)

Verdict

The six-year-old ZAMPARELLI could hardly have been more impressive when running away with a modest event last time. This is tougher but he seems to be going the right way and is taken to follow up off a much higher mark. Top weight Monbeg Charmer may prove the biggest danger back on a sound surface, and Lord Bryan is respected despite his apparent preference for softish ground.
  1. Zamparelli
  2. Monbeg Charmer
  3. Lord Bryan
