In useful form over hurdles lately, makes first start over the larger obstacles now and of clear interest if taking to this challenge.

Scored decisively off an 8lb lower mark over hurdles at Huntingdon (3m1f, good) late last month. First time over fences and rates a contender despite the new mark.

Placed four times in nine starts over fences, though seemingly finding it hard to get that elusive win. Gets 2lb back from the assessor but may need a bit more still.

Had to show some resolve, but justified market support for winning chase debut at Hexham in a novice event a fortnight ago. Step up in distance promises more to come and the one to beat.

Runner-up to Coeur Pensif at Huntingdon last month over hurdles, entitled to come on for the run as it came off a break and interesting contender on first attempt at this discipline.

Lightly-raced Mahler gelding, runner-up both starts in novice/maiden hurdles before being pulled up on chase debut at Southwell (3m, good) in October, shaping as if something was amiss. Returns from a break and worth another look.

Hurdles winner, looked to have something to offer in two chase starts last spring, ran poor race at Towcester this month on first start for almost a year. Blinkers tried now.

Temperamental sort with jumping issues. Yet to get off the mark in 10 starts over fences and remains opposable.

Pulled up in two outings over hurdles in 2016 when last spotted under rules, has a recent point-to-point win under his belt but is getting no favours at these weights and looks up against it.

Forecasts

Stick To The Plan (6/4), Loch Linnhe (5/1), Nightline (6/1), Go West Young Man (8/1), Coeur Pensif (8/1), One Forty Seven (17/2), Our Reward (20/1), Ringmoylan (33/1), Best Director (40/1)

Verdict

LOCH LINNHE was backed for a winning start over fences at Hexham and he knuckled down to get the job done. This longer trip could bring about further improvement and he can double his tally now. Coeur Pensif won last time over hurdles, holding off One Forty Seven in second spot, and both are players now going chasing while Stick To The Plan also will hold his chance if taking to these obstacles.
  1. Loch Linnhe
  2. Coeur Pensif
  3. One Forty Seven
