Previoulsy with John Gosden on the flat (rated 81). Three runs over hurdles haven't amounted to much and he was beaten a long way when last seen in at Taunton (2m3f, good) back in November. Makes handicap debut today and should improve at some stage

Returned from almost a yaer off the track when third at Taunton (2m½f, good) three weeks ago. Should strip fitter for that run and he is well handicapped on some of his old form. Likes this ground and you can certainly make a case for him going well

Not entirely sure his opening mark was altogether generous on what we had seen. Tailed off after trying to make the running at Taunton (2m½f, good) latest and quickly dropped 5lb. Hard to make a case for at the moment.

Best hurdles effort to date came when fourth of eight at Taunton on handicap debut. Seemed to take a step backwards last time at Newton Abbot (2m2½f, soft) when beaten a long way. Dropped 3lbs but clearly needs to do more. Tongue tie added

Interesting handicap debuatant. Three runs over hurldes so far have all been on soft ground and has been held up. Starts life in handicaps on a low mark and has been freshened up. Best flat form came on better ground and market check is essential.

Dropped to a career low mark when winning at Taunton (2m½f, good) last month. Couldn't cope with the 8lb rise next time and was comfortably held. Same mark today and similar story is likely.

Slowly but surely has been coming to hand of late. Ran much her best race when coming from off the pace to finish second here over C&D (good) last time. Top rider back in the saddle and chances in current mood.

Nine race maiden who has shown a little more since joining this yard. Took a step backwards last time though over C&D when well beaten by her stablemate Ruby Russet. Has quite a bit of work to do to reverse that form and get involved today.

Has run consistently well since the turn of the year and duly rewarded with a win at Taunton (2m½f, heavy) last month. Nudged up 5lbs for that win which asks a few more questions in a slightly better race. Not totally discounted in current mood.

Now 0/21 over jumps/hurdles and hard to make a very solid case for him. Beaten a very long way at Warwick (2m3f, good) last time and whilst he is attractively weighted, it's hard to enthuse for win purposes.

Most of his hurdles form is weak and it's been a similar story on the flat of late too. Should appreciate this return to better ground but likely to be set for a minor role all the same.

Forecasts

Ruby Russet (9/4), Zamalight (7/2), Borak (13/2), Ice Tres (7/1), The Major (9/1), Karl Marx (9/1), Dharoos (20/1), Lizzie Langton (20/1), Petrify (33/1), Diablerets (40/1), Emperor Commodos (66/1)

Verdict

Karl Marx has been in good form this year and if able to back those efforts up could go close again. Ruby Russet is the best of the Colin Tizzard pair and she improved last time over C&D. A similar effort will see her on the scene again with Harry Cobden back on board. A chance is going to be taken that ZAMALIGHT can take advantage of a lenient opening mark in handicaps. His best form on the flat was on good ground and this surface will be much more to his liking than what he has encountered over timber so far.
  1. Zamalight
  2. Ruby Russet
  3. Karl Marx
