Stayed on well to score over C&D on penultimate start. Failed to shine over fenecs latest but definite player on last hurdles run so should be very much on the premises.

Didn't appear to be giving his all on last couple of starts so no surprise to see first time blinkers applied. Jockey and trainer remain in fine form so could improve for the headgear.

Flow With Eveb158
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-9| J: Aidan Coleman| T: O Murphy| OR:  97

Still a maiden but has gone close on a couple of occasions. Clearly is difficult to win with so first time blinkers are added for yard continuing in very good form. Needs a leap of faith though.
4
Horse silk
Picknick Park136
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-7| J: Adam Wedge| T: N Kent| OR:  95
7/1
Maiden who continues to drop in the handicap but hasn't really threatened to trouble the judge in recent starts and may need more help before getting his head in front.
5
Horse silk
Monthyne48
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-4| J: R Johnson| T: W Greatrex| OR:  92
3/1
Hails from a good yard and has champion jockey on board for his handicap debut. Has shown very little to date in novice hurdles but quite feasible it could be a different story at this lowly level so is worth considering.

Wells Gold155
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-1| J: Alain Cawley| T: F O'Brien| OR:  89
9/2
Showed a good attitude to battle home in Fontwell handicap hurdle in November but ran poorly at this track only subsequent start and was eventually pulled up. Has had a five month break though and yard in good form so is interesting.

Maiden point to pointer has shown nothing in three starts under Rules since joining current yard. Handicap bow here off low rating but makes little appeal on current evidence.

Trainer has very few runners and is over a year without a win but is 2-10 at this track. Runner-up here on Boxing Day in similar event that ran poorly at Bangor. Return to this venue will help and is not without hope.

Only win in 51 starts came at Wetherby four years ago. Runner-up at Uttoxeter in September but hasn't done much since then and is 3lb worng at the weights. Plenty more needed.

Forecasts

Cafe Au Lait (9/4), Monthyne (3/1), Wells Gold (9/2), Norse Light (6/1), Picknick Park (7/1), Flow With Eve (9/1), Sundance Boy (14/1), My Anchor (40/1), Lady Of The Rea (40/1), Exit To Freedom (66/1)

Verdict

A moderate affair so, despite having shown little in the way of form so far, a chance is taken that handicap debutant MONTHYNE can step up to the plate with the champion jockey on board. C&D winner Norse Light is the obvious danger despite top weight, and the headgear may persuade both Cafe Au Lait and Flow With Eve to try a little harder. Wells Gold is also a contender returning from a winter break so is worth a market check.
  1. Monthyne
  2. Wells Gold
  3. Norse Light
