Both his two recent starts have been poor and that could well be the reason for the wind surgery that he's now had. His last two wins have come in the same handicap at Newbury and he looks to have a stiff task off this mark.

Has never really progressed from his November Newbury run where he ran well off a mark of 136 and has essentially been disappointing. His latest run at Fakenham was hard to be positive about and he has plenty to prove here.

Often travels well in his races without always delivering at the business end and that was the pattern last time at Stratford finishing runner-up. That was a step in the right direction after a wind op but he's essentially one to be wary with.

His chasing form has yet to match that that he showed over hurdles but he wasn't running to badly when departing 3 out when last seen. Runs off the same mark here and looks well-weighted on the strength of his hurdles form.

A very consistent sort but that hasn't given him any respite from the handicapper and his mark has climbed without winning. Now 10lb above his last winning mark and facing a tough test here at the weights.

Respectable runs on all four starts for this yard although he failed to justify support last time when given an aggressive ride over this sort of trip. Dropped 1lb for that run but still to win over fences (0/8 overall).

Now features in a much tougher grade that the one that he first scored in over fences at Southwell a few runs ago. Overall he's failed to go on from that run and even the addition of cheekpieces couldn't spark a revival last time over a shorter trip.

Forecasts

Minella Scamp (5/2), Champagne At Tara (4/1), Crosspark (4/1), Crown Hill (6/1), Thomas Crapper (7/1), Soupy Soups (7/1), Weyburn (14/1)

Verdict

Not many solid profiles on display here with both Thomas Crapper and Crosspark needing to recapture their old form to take a hand. Champagne At Tara often travels well in his races but his finishing effort has flattered to deceive on more than one occasion and this stiff finish may not be to his liking. Minella Scamp is starting to look disappointing over fences and this might be best left to SOUPY SOUPS who is yet to match his hurdles form over fences but looks well weighted on the best of it. He’ll need to have recovered from a tumble last time but he was going well at the time and the penny might be starting to drop over the larger obstacles.
  1. Soupy Soups
  2. Champagne At Tara
  3. Minella Scamp
