Multiple C&D winner and always seen at his best in staying races on the AW. 1lb higher than when seventh at Lingfield last time but should do better here.

A regular in good staying handicaps last season but his last couple of runs have left something to be desired, though she may not have been suited by the heavy ground last time out.

Capable over middle distances and should stay this far, with the jockey booking a positive. Yard not going well at the moment, though.

Good record overall, but not at his best at this course last time and stepping markedly up in trip so has to prove his stamina for this staying distance.

Capable off this mark on his day but not at his best on his two outings so far this year, and still has stamina to prove for this trip. Cheek pieces on.

Won well over this trip at Chelmsford last time out. Does well over staying trips and seems to appreciate an AW surface; this just his second start for this yard.

Two solid efforts over C&D the last twice. This looks a competitive enough affair but this is a workable mark and he should run his usual good race.

Winner of a handicap hurdle over the winter but now has his first run on the Flat since September with a better performance than his last run on the level needed.

Only marginally outran his 100/1 price on stable/seasonal debut at Newcastle last time out and vulnerable to younger rivals here, especially off the back of that performance.

All his best recent performances have come over this C&D which is obviously encouraging, but below his best here on his last run of 2017 and needs improvement on that effort.

A winner at Chelmsford two starts ago but less impressive at Wolverhampton last time. This should still be a workable mark if he can prove he has the stamina for this distance.

Ran well in staying AW handicaps off lower marks than this last season, but judging by his recent sixth at Newcastle the handicapper may be in charge for now.

Forecasts

Chocolate Box (4/1), Regicide (4/1), Amazing Red (5/1), Gavlar (7/1), Haines (7/1), Steaming (9/1), Graceland (16/1), Mambo Dancer (20/1), Jacob Cats (20/1), Zakatal (25/1), King Calypso (25/1), Arty Campbell (33/1)

Verdict

A number of these have to prove they stay this far, but not so C&D winner HAINES. Andrew Balding's charge likes it here, and though not able to show his best at Lingfield last time out should appreciate the return to this course. He can see off Amazing Red, who is certainly one of the more talented contenders here and should stay this far but still has that to conclusively prove, and recent Chelmsford scorer Chocolate Box.
  1. Haines
  2. Amazing Red
  3. Chocolate Box
