Enjoyed a productive 2017 for the most part winning four handicaps over this trip but it looked as though gradually the handicapper caught up. Now makes her debut for a new yard over her best trip although the mark still looks a little high.
Won her first two starts with a break of 10 months in between doing plenty wrong on the second occasion (pulled very hard) but taking her handicap debut off 81. Faced a stiff task on her last start in a French Listed event (1m4f, soft); more to come.
The only one of these to have run here before and after showing promise on her debut she won her next three starts. The winning spree stalled after that although she continued to run with credit; remains 7lb above last winning mark.
First run for this yard having previously been with David Smaga in France (won a maiden over 1m2f). Makes her handicap debut in this with the yard having a decent strike-rate with their debutantes in this sphere.
Made all to win over this trip in June at Windsor on quick ground but didn't quite show the same sort of spark after that. Looked a difficult ride subsequently often pulling too hard and spoiling her chance that way.
Rattled off a quick-fire Wolverhampton handicap hat-trick late last year and has run creditably for the most past since then without winning. Ran poorly last time though and her previous turf form was modest.
Stable could hardly be in better form so that makes this one worthy of respect and she justified favouritism on her third start at Thirsk (1m, heavy). May do better than she did on her handicap debut back from a break although the mark looks stiff.
Forecasts
Precious Ramotswe (15/8), White Chocolate (9/4), Caravela (6/1), Canberra Cliffs (8/1), Flying North (9/1), Deccan Queen (12/1), Champagne Pink (16/1)
This should prove an informative contest with PRECIOUS RAMOTSWE returned to handicaps after coming up short when tried in Listed class in France towards the end of last year. She still has potential after scoring on her first two starts. It may prove folly to ignore anything trained by Mick Channon at the moment but Caravela may just need the run and the mark looks a tough one. Deccan Queen is the dark horse of the race having her first run for the Osborne yard and making her handicap debut White Chocolate who has experience of this idiosyncratic track should run with credit but will have to have improved off her existing mark, the stable having won this last year.
- Precious Ramotswe
- White Chocolate
- Caravela
